In view of your difficulty to find the right word I have consulted my Collins English Dictionary and have confirmed that the word in question is shown there with the following synonyms: artificial, counterfeit, substitute, false, sham and pretence. It is a word of French origin. P------e.

I will have to buy myself a US dictionary. :read:

:yess: Tobermory. Your turn. 'You have to correct your spelling though.;)
I'm curious, is "postiche" in your American dictionary?
”Postiche” is a new word for me. I’ve only ever seen “pastiche.” Both are in my Webster’s dictionary.

According to my Roget’s Thesaurus, one of the synonyms for “pastiche” is “imitation.” Interestingly, Roget’s doesn’t have “postiche” at all!

Thank you Tobermory. I have now learnt a new word. I have checked and the Collins English Dictionary offers BOTH words but it gives the meaning of "pA
stiche" as: "a work of art that mixes styles, materials, etc."

Now I look forward to your proposition of the next clue.
