Good morning!

Happy Saturday. It's the start of a long weekend here in Japan, so most people are having a lie-in this morning. I have to work weekend mornings though. I had to drag myself out of bed at 7.30, so the cats could be fed, the dishes done and I could look slightly more presentable for work.

Are you are morning person? What time do you usually get up? What time do you get up when you don't have work or school?

I am really not a morning person. To be honest I'm not even a day time person. I kind of stumble around on autopilot until mid afternoon, and don't get up to top gear until the evening.

If it wasn't for hungry kitties demanding breakfast I could sleep until past 9 am, but they usually make me get up around 8 or 8.30.

Up at 5.30am weekends too to feed cat ( cant mess up his routine or else!!) but go back to bed for sleep in..still bumping into walls at 10.00am.

Unfortunately I am a morning person. I can't seem to sleep past 4am even when I don't have to be anywhere. of course that means I'm dead on my feet by 7pm. It's been this way for years and I never have been able to change my body clock.

I need exactly 9.5 hours of sleep each night or else I am useless.

I tend to go to bed late and wake up late. I go to bed anywhere between 11pm - 2 am. Then, I get up around 12pm. My dog always screams in the morning to be let out so lately, I've been getting up at 6:30am but going back to sleep afterwards.

When I was in college I definitely was not a morning person but things changed after I graduated and started working full-time. Now I am a morning person and during the week I get up no later than 7 a.m. Of course, one thing that hasn't changed is I still need my morning coffee. ;) On the weekend when I don't set an alarm I usually sleep until 8 a.m.

I don't have any choice - Mowgli and his predecessor decided 5 a.m. is the proper time for breakfast, so that's when I get up every day. It was helpful when I had an hour-long commute and started classes at 8 a.m., and now I can start any time before 9 a.m. and have a half-hour walk, so I aim for getting there around 7 a.m., which the shelter animals appreciate.

No, no and no again.
Years ago my son got me a bookmark that says..."All the coffee in Columbia won't make me a morning person". I need that on a coffee mug.
I want one that says, "There is nothing that can be done at the crack of dawn that cannot be done just as easily at the crack of noon." My personal motto. That and "Never trust anyone who doesn't like cats."

I hate mornings. Not a fan of daytime in general. The best time of day is the middle of the night. The world is dark and quiet. The moonlight is soft and gentle unlike the sun which is a fireball in the sky that wants to burn me and age me prematurely. There's an owl that likes to sit in the tree behind the house and hoot softly to me all night long. My feathered BFF.

That sounds like me. If I had the money I'd buy one of those giant bouncy castles and live in that. Then I wouldn't hurt myself every time I walked into a wall.

I did spend several months getting up at 5 am to do yoga and going to bed at 9 pm. It's supposed to be wonderful for you to sleep and wake with the sunset and sunrise, but it just doesn't fit in with my work schedule.

I need exactly 9.5 hours of sleep each night or else I am useless.
You may be part cat.

Yes! Isn't it funny how here have never been any studies done on the relationship between coffee and human evolution? If it wasn't for coffee I'm sure we'd still be stumbling around, slack jawed with our knuckles dragging on the ground.

Maybe they put Mowgli up to it?

"There is nothing that can be done at the crack of dawn that cannot be done just as easily at the crack of noon.
That's what I tell Mr Husband when he leaves at 5 am to go and climb something. That mountain has stood there for millions of years, it will still be there this afternoon.

I am a morning person. When I worked I was often up at 5am, now retired I automatically wake early, between 5am and 6 am. I'm out and about by 8am and home lunchtime. Then find I fall asleep in the aftenoon. Cant get out of the habit of getting up early.

Morning person here. When I worked I was up just a little before 5 each morning. I still feel guilty if I sleep past 7. I get WAY more work done in the morning, but it has been difficult recently because my husband leaves for work around 10.

I am a morning person, usually up by about 4:30am but I don't sleep well so I have a nap, sometimes 2. I like sitting on the deck when it's still dark and I'm drinking me tea. Very peaceful.

Nay not a morning person, for sure!

For my Beauty industry job it is shift work, but if I have a day shift I am up at 5 am to be there for 8 am.

If I have a later shift or teaching dance later or have a day off, and am able to sleep in, I'm usually up around 9 am. I have been blessed with kitties that let me sleep in that late

Of course they will bug me if I am past 9 am! But I am usually ready to be up by then anyway.

I am the same way you are. Recently I have to be up at 4am, my cat won't eat that early; I put her food down anyway.
She likes to eat around 6:30am and pm. Usually, she wants a midday snack; I give her a treat or two. Because I am eating I give her something to eat that is cat friendly.
She wakes me up by calling me, walking over me, sitting on my head. When I don't have to get up, 11 am is perfect for me; after I feed the cat around 6:30 am of course.

I have never been a morning person. All through my school years and working career I detested having to get up early.:argh:

When I went to college I finally had some flexibility in arranging my class schedule to minimize or eliminate early morning classes. My policy was I didn't do any classes that started before 10:00 am.:noway:

Over my working career I managed to work on a few projects where I didn't have to get to work until about 5:00 pm. I loved those projects.

I have read that the "experts" say that you can't make up for lost sleep. My personal experience contradicts that opinion. During my working career, I typically went to bed around midnight and had to get up by 6:00 am. By the end of the week I had a severe sleep deficit. As long as I could sleep in (until at least 9:00 or 10:00 am) on either Saturday or Sunday, I was good to go on Monday. But, if I couldn't sleep in, I was miserable the entire next week.

Being able to sleep late is probably my greatest joy being retired. I normally get to bed around 12:30 am. My wife has the clock radio set for 6:00 am seven days a week. Most mornings I sleep right through it. But, by 6:30 am I am being assaulted by hungry cats. I get up, get their breakfast ready, make sure they eat, clean the dishes, and then go back to bed. I typically get up around 9:30 am.

No. I usually get up anywhere from 8:15-8:45. That's an improvement for me. I'd rather sleep till 10. :smash:

When I was working outside the home I'd go to bed by 9:30 and still not actually be conscious before I got to work. It was like around 8:30 I'd suddenly feel like I came alive. I have literally cried because it hurt trying to be up moving at 6/6:30.

I was laid off from one job when my program closed and within a week I was back to my natural rhythm of staying up till 2am and sleeping till 10/10:30. I sleep that late now when I can. It just feels right. And I feel good when I get to sleep that way. :agree: My kids are old enough to feed themselves breakfast now. But I need to get other stuff done before we start school so I can't keep sleeping late. (School starts in a week!)

That's my natural rhythm too. Of course it's hard to find a job that accommodates those hours, so I have to get up at 6:30 :/. But I've never gotten used to it.

I am not a morning person, I never was and never will be. I hate mornings! Gotta get up by 7am for work, I dont even like talking to my coworkers til about 9 or later. Even on weekends I hate waking up even without an alarm. I'm just a cranky monster for a while after I wake up. :angryfire:

I am not a morning person but I wish I was. I get up at 7:30 on Sundays and 8:30 on Mondays through Thursdays for work. When I don't work, I will usually still wake up around 8:30, but I may or may not fall back asleep until 11 or 12.

If I could get away with it and be healthy, I'd never sleep. Although I am not a morning person, I wake up easily. I don't drink caffeine, so once I'm out of bed, I am fully awake.
