Well, another day another drama!

I've just taken my little girl, Hedy, to the emergency vet. I found a severely chewed packet of treats - there were no treats left but also about a 2cm² area of missing plastic.

Fast forward to the evening and she hasn't eaten, vomited twice and diarrhea once. Urgh! The vomit had a couple of small pieces of plastic but nothing that I would've though would cause problems....

So, off we went to the vets with the plastic package of evidence. The vet found that along with diarrhoea and vomiting she also has a slight fever. So, now I'm actually wondering if maybe the plastic bag is a red herring. That actually, she's got a tummy bug?

The vet is going to keep her in overnight so he can give her gastro support medication, fluids and monitor for sign of an obstruction. If the meds don't improve her he'll do x-rays and bloods to find out what's going on.

I won't hear from the vets this evening now so wondered if anyone else has experience of an obstruction leading to fever? I am dreading the idea of surgery and this fever may be giving me false hope it won't be necessary.

The vet is refusing to comment until he knows more!

Fever IS something that could be expected due to an obstruction in the digestive system or swallowing a non edible item - it's often a symptom of intestinal issues of that nature

Thanks epona epona ! I really had no idea that could happen.

I shall wait and hear from the vets. Fingers crossed she won't need surgery!

If the diarrhea continues then I doubt that it is an obstruction. Once everything past the obstruction is out of the system then there will be no more bowel movements of any type because there is nothing there.

She had diarrhea up to 12 hours after the packet incident. I don't know what's going on now with her as she's staying in at the vets.

Well, now my other cat has vomiting and diarrhea so fairly unliky it's a contagious obstruction!

X-rays done and no obstruction:yess:

She's not eating at the vets and is also refusing to poop - but the vet reckons this is because she is not feeling safe. This is entirely expected behaviour for her personality so she is coming home and I'll be monitoring the litter pan/food bowls. If she doesn't eat or poop by tomorrow night I'll bring her back.

Can't wait to get my girl back in a few hours and give her all the cuddles! :lovecat:

What happened next? I am hoping she is ok.
She was fine! As I suspected she wasn't eating or pooping at the vets because she was scared. Came home had a massive (firm) poop and ate a whole pouch of food then settled on my lap for cuddles.

She fell out with our other cat for a few days but they are now good friends again.

I think they both made themselves sick gorging on the treats they got into!
