i have a cat who underwent cesarean section on her first litter (March 2019). At first, she was able to deliver 2 kittens normally then the last 2 kittens went to c-section. Now, she got pregnant again and I was advised by the veterinarian that she might undergo another c-section :( which worries me since I’m not sure if she can still handle another operation :(. I just wanted to ask if thus anyone of you here have their cats cesarean the first time then was able to deliver kittens normally on the second time? I don’t want to lose hope that she can deliver it normally that’s why I’m here trying to get some hope through your answers. Thank you!

Could the vet go ahead and spay your cat? This can be done while your cat is pregnant. Two litters in less than six months is very hard on your mama. Your vet is the expert on whether a cat can safely deliver after a c-section.

It is possible that she would be able to deliver normally, however there are risks for pregnancy and vaginal delivery after c-section, just as there are for humans. Her uterus may have scarring and/or adhesions that may affect the growth of her kittens and her ability to deliver them naturally. Generally, you would want to wait for her to go into labor before performing a c-section, because premature kittens usually don't do well, but if there are complications or delays during labor, you would need to be prepared to rush to the emergency vet hospital.

The safest choice medically for your cat would probably be to spay/abort as soon as possible, although not everyone is comfortable with that procedure. Was there a reason she wasn't spayed during the c-section before?

I’m surprised the vet did not go ahead and spay her during the first C-section.

With domestics, the most common is to spay immediately together with the cesarean. However, with purebred cats in a breeding programme, they dont spay if not medically necessary or it was the last litter for this mother cat. And typically they can deliver as usually in later pregnancies... Its important of course they had proper time to recover, build up their condition anew etc, before they are mated.
