Since the death of my cat a year ago, I had fostered other kittens, and all of them were rehomed a few weeks later.
I always asked myself if I could regret that decision, but I was always happy for the kittens when they found a new home. Yes, I was a bit sad at first, I was surely missing them for a couple of days, but I didn't regret.

Of course, time is passing by, and I should feel more and more ready for a new cat, but I think I have to feel it, I have to feel inside my heart that THAT cat is the one I was waiting for.
Right now I don't think I'm feeling like that, though I love her and she loves me.

It's difficult to explain, even to myself.

You are awesome for being true to yourself. You still fostered and gave a loving start to some kitties, yet you know it's not "time" yet. After Jojo crossed over I could only keep loving Mimi and Nola. It's a different love for each one. As much, yet different. Then one day my heart went searching and I looked on PetFinder, Humane Society and the Animal Care Center. So many beautiful companions! And then one day I saw a teeny face spilled with black ink over her nose and sweet butterscotch eyes... It's not as if I had a particular type or breed in mind. The one thing I know is the soul knows what the heart wants. When we least expect it. Just let you be you. Know that every time you love, your heart lights up brighter and brighter. You don't have to "be ready" for love, it will find you.

Oh my goodness, so many beautiful cats!
Laelia was from a shelter - I wanted a tortie so I searched online until I found one.
Toothless & Cinder came from our son's girlfriend's cat. They were a "surprise" (I'd said No More Cats but he knew I couldn't say no if he brought them home - especially at 10pm on a Sunday night when the girlfriend lived 2 hrs north...)
Gram & Tawny were also from a shelter. We'd been looking for a pair of kittens because Toothless & Cinder taught us that kittens are best when they come in pairs. :)

Wow, how did I miss this this thread? I don't stop by as often as I used to, but glad I caught this one now. Its a good one!
Nice to hear the stories, & see all the beautiful babies!

As many of you know, both of mine adopted me. :)
I wrote a story of how Angel adopted me, here on the site, but when I found it, it's only the intro to the article & pictures. The actual story isn't there. So, here's the link to it on my Docs if you'd like to read it. :)

Sadly, I lost Angel to lymphoma 3 yrs ago this past Feb. 5th. Hard to believe its been that long.... He really was my soul kitty.

7 months later Sammie showed up on my porch. I truly believe that she was guided by Angel. She was a sleek little black panther.. She hung out for a long weekend & when she stayed around, I finally just let her in. I don't know where she came from, but she had been TNR'd. (Angel had also been fixed, but his ear was not tipped).
She too, walked in, walked around checking out the place, & laid down, just as Angel had. :angel3: It was only about a month in & I took her to the vet. No microchipp, so she got her shots, & registered to me, & then I had my second baby. I thought it would be at leat a yr after losing Angel, but this was meant to be. She was my sweet & sassy little girl. :purr:
Sadly, we only had 2 & 1/2 yrs together.
She had developed a mass on her liver that was carsanoma. I was heartbroken to say the least!! What are the chances that my first & only two kitties had cancer! I feel like there Must be something in the "kitty gene pool" over there in that neighborhood.
I only got a month with my little girl, after the diagnosis. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge this past Dec. 14th.
As truly heartbreaking as it was for me, if Sammie was lead to me, so that I could love & spoil her more than anything, & give her the best care, then I am glad we had each other for the last two years of her life.
Had she not adopted me, she may have suffered in her last 2 months. So I believe Angel sent her to me, knowing that I would take the best care of her & love her so much. I like to believe that they are now together over the Rainbow Bridge.

Hello angels mommy angels mommy What beautiful babies. I am so very sorry for your losses. How well I have known the pain, so many, many times. It is wonderful that you have been so blessed as to share life with two little angels. I am always open and aware of the opportunity to share life with another deserving cat after one ascends. Currently the furmily is Tarifa, 15 going on 16, Baby Su, 14 going on 15, and Elvis, 11 going on 12.
*I asked for permission to access Angel's story. You'll see me with "picto" in my screenname.*

One of my work colleagues knew I was planning to get two kittens after losing my 18 and 19 year old cats within six months of each other. Her sister’s cat had kittens, couldn’t find homes for the last two, and was going to take them to the shelter so I took them without seeing them (she lived in Idaho; we were in Utah). I’ve had Iris and Lily 15 years now—or rather, they’ve had me. :)

Mocha was a mostly feral cat that was transferred to the small sanctuary where I volunteered along with three kittens she was fostering. She had been picked up with kittens of her own and taken to the local humane society. Her kittens were adopted and they put three other kittens with her who had lost their mother, and then all four were transferred to the sanctuary. She was a wonderful stepmom. Mocha’s “step” children were adopted, but Mocha was so fearful of humans that no one could touch her.

In August 2017, a wildfire threatened the sanctuary and they had to evacuate all 60+ animals, most of which were farm animals. I didn’t house the 800-lb. pigs or the llamas or goats :), but I did shelter three of the cats for two weeks in my spare bedroom, including Mocha. After the danger was over, I returned Tippy and BB, but I kept Mocha. I had watched her for a year and a half at the sanctuary, and she was so pitifully scared of everyone who came into the cat cottage. And while she was still scared at my house, I could see her starting to relax. She’s still a bit jumpy and I can’t pick her up and hold her, but she sleeps in my lap and next to me at night, follows me around, and loves attention. She’s incredibly affectionate.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 , Thank you! I didn't realize that you'd have to get permission to access it. Sorry, I'm that tech savvy. I think I did do it though, & sent it for you. :)
Thank you so much, angels mommy angels mommy . Read and commented upon. Funny, I got in the queue for google email before it was a thing, got approved, and have had that account since then. NEVER looked at it or even opened it except for synced stuff on other sites. So I had like 2K emails to get rid of. Thanks for making me do that, too. ;) I'm always haranguing other people to clear their email and yet I never did it myself on this account. :ohwell:

All of you guys and gals that take in strays, and then rehome them weeks later, must have SO much more willpower or common sense than I, or any member of my family does. How do you do it? Whenever a "cat, or three, or five, of any size, color, or age shows up at my, or either of my daughters homes...well it's home for life!

It seems that whenever a cat or kitten makes eye contact with any member of my family its automatically ADOPTED! There is not a thing we can do about it,...it's a medical disorder that I would not wish on anyone.

So far we all have been blessed with the space, time, and dollars to be able to do this... and we have loved every cat that we've had come in and share their life with us. I pray that this will continue.

This is the main reason why I could never foster... I would want to keep all of them!

It takes a strong willpower, because those tiny little creatures crawl into our hearts.
But when I take them into my home I already know they will leave, so I try not to attach too much to them, I raise sort of a barrier between me and them.
Shouldn't I do that, I couldn't help so many of them, it wouldn't be impossible to keep them all.
In other words, someone has to do this harsh job in order that someone else could enjoy a life with a kitty.

But...
In my post, Lola and Romeo were found orphaned. My aim was to raise them to a proper age and find them a good home. By the time they were ready to leave my home, I had got too attached to them. After all I had bottle fed them, they were children.
Pallina stayed only because nobody wanted her.

I got Aslan from a breeder. I wanted a shelter cat originally, but I was turned down because my apartment is too small. It’s not even that small...but okay.

I was turned down by another shelter because they wanted people to adopt two at a time and I am only able to have one for now.

Was turned down by 3 shelters in total.

I was in a pretty bleak depression so I just went to a breeder who had kittens available and picked up my psycho Bengal boy.

I love him to pieces but I do wish I could have had a rescue. I feel guilty spending 2k on a cat. Maybe next time.

I rescued Juniper in quite a convoluted way. I had decided that I wanted a cat, and was ready to start looking at local shelters, when my roommate told me that her boyfriend's brother's boss had a cat she was keeping at their office since Juniper wasn't adjusting to life with the boss's other, more dominant cats very well.

Juniper has a clipped ear, so she must have been a spay and release at some point in her life. Apparently Juniper was a stray who came around the boss's home and was so sweet and affectionate that she decided to bring her in. After living in an office space for about month, which was hardly ideal, Juniper's existence came into my orbit and I almost immediately adopted her.

She is such an affectionate, vocal, and adaptable cat. She follows me around almost constantly, gives me kisses, and adjusts super well to spending time at my parent's house as well as my apartment. She even tolerates my parents' one year old puppy quite well! She's an excellent companion, and I couldn't be happier that this strange little adoption story worked out the way it did.

Ok guys, I logged in on my computer & this should be the link to my story with out having to ask for access. ;):) It just wasn't showing an option on my phone.

How Angel adopted me

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 , Yes, I have that gmail that was set up for....something? But always just use my yahoo that I've always had. Would be way too much to transfer over!
*Exactamente* Yahoo is my main email client, too, though I have accounts on a few others as well, for different purposes.
