Hey guys,
I have two male orange tabbies, Sam and Dean. They are 9 years old, litter mates, and VERY close (they cry around the house looking for each other every 10 minutes). When I left for college 2 years ago, my mother kept them in a large room for a good portion of the day.

She complained about them peeing outside the litter box, probably because they wanted attention.

By the time I realized this was going on, they had been peeing/spraying quite often. I have now taken them to live with me in my apartment where there are 2 other cats.

We have two covered cat boxes to accommodate the four felines.

However, Sam and Dean have continued to spray/pee on the kitchen floor, the carpet, the stove??, and even on grocery bags.

Is it territorial? Confusion? Stress?

I am not capable of rehoming them. I want to fix the problem. Please help?

Hi! Such handsome boys :)
Have they been in to the vet?
Cats are very clean animals and don't eliminate outside the box for attention.

You may want to get another litter box if you have room, that will help a bit.

No, I haven't taken them to the vet. I will make an appointment. Thank you!

It's best to have one litterbox per cat, plus one extra. Some kitties don't like to share. And some cats don't like covered boxes. So adding a few uncovered boxes might help. How often are the boxes cleaned?

Feliway and Cat Attract may help.

If that doesn't work, ask the vet about medications. Some cats just need a few months of Prozac to get their brains back on track, although some need it long-term.

Are they neutered? If not it will help some at least the smell will be less.

The stove. Yes, been there, smelled that. Immediately order covers for your burners. If the stove is gas lift up the top and throughly clean under it. Be sure the pilot light remains on when you close the cover. Closing the cover will sometimes blow it out. If this happens, immediately light a burner, wait a couple of minutes for the pilot light
to catch. turn the burner off then see if it turns on. If not, repeat.

The top of an electric stove will not raise up, which makes it harder to clean. for both use baking soda and white vinegar.
