i'm not into crunchy taco shells, because they break apart so easily while eating them. :dunno:
Try putting one in the softshell (or just throw a handful of corn chips in). It gives it a nice crunch and you don't have to worry about it breaking on you.

I don't like rice in tacos or burritos. It just doesn't have the right texture. Which means I didn't like Chipotle the one time I tried it. But I heard you can order no rice, double beans or veggies, so I think I'll try that next time.

I don't like Chipotle either. They put cilantro in their rice. :gaah: :fear: :headshake:

Here in SoCal tacos are everywhere. I honestly don't get them often, because I'm vegetarian and most places dont do veggie tacos it seems, or I feel like it's too much trouble to special order them to suit my admittedly picky taste. There is a local place near us that does potato tacos and vegetarian bean tacos, and those are soooo good. And cheap! They come with crunchy tortillas, but if I remember, I ask for soft tortillas. I prefer them. Whenever I'm ordering Mexican, after asking if beans or rice are vegetarian (I'm usually limited to whole pinto or black beans, which is ok), I always always say No cilantro! :barfgreen: :barf:

We don't have tacos a lot but when we do we like them all. Crispy, soft tacos, burritos, the works.
Best fillings for me are seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and a lot of melted cheese with taco sauce. Sometimes chicken and beans too.
I think my favorite quick taco type meal is just a tortilla shell with some meat (if you like meat, if not, beans), the fillings I mentioned above. Toast in the oven for 5-10 minutes, let cool for 1-2 minutes. Spend 15 minutes prying a Baby Girl off your arm and enjoy.

Love tacos, hard shells. I prefer beef, lots of cheese, sour cream, avocado, the works, you get it. I prefer making them at home. I like soft ones too - I've made tortillas from scratch and they are so superior to store bought and not all that difficult to make.

However, since I don't eat beef anymore for the most part (maybe one a month?) and avoid fried stuff too let alone piles of cheese LOL, tacos are a thing of the past. Too much of a trigger food for me. I can't even remember the last time I had them - easily a year or more.

I love tacos. I always get soft shell and prefer corn, but it breaks apart so easily. The meat of choice is usually shrimp or chicken.

This thread is keeping me so hungry. My Mexican cravings are also drifting toward Puerto Rican food now. :yummy: Good job self.

I'm one of those people who loves cilantro. I've tried to make a copy-cat version of Chipotle's rice. It came out ok. I really like lime and cilantro together so it's right up my alley.

DH has been eating gluten free again; so I'm cooking more rice and potatoes. But plain rice gets so boring. I could deal with it; but other people complain.:angrywoman:  I have occasionally put rice in a taco/burrito type lunch when I'm low on ingredients and it's ok. It has to be moist enough.

We love the super stuffer flat bottomed corn tortillas because they hold more goodies. Sometimes we start with refried beans. Then ground beef with a good taco seasoning and perhaps some chopped jalapeno in it. Next is lettuce for Robert, guacamole if we have it (so good!), lots of shredded cheese, sometimes sliced green onion, Pace picante sauce (only!), and sour cream. Occasionally a sprinkle of sliced green onion. Ahhh, bliss!

We love plain flour tortillas lightly warmed on the griddle and then slathered with butter and rolled up. I could make a whole meal of those.

We also make Frito pie. A pile of Fritos, a layer of no-bean Wolf Brand (only) chili, a big layer of shredded cheese, and a generous sprinkling of onion. So good! Sometimes I mist the chili, Velveeta cheese, and the onion all together and heat it before pouring it over the Fritos. Either way it's yummy.

A good cold beer goes well with either one.

Jack in the Box tacos are really horrible, but I love them. Go figure.

I make homemade tacos, but it is a toss-up as to what I like best.

Actual tacos: Typically, they are softshell, but I also make hardshell using flour tortillas in my fryer. I just do not do that very often, even though I like the fried shells better. My family and I prefer chicken tacos. I use Adobo, Sazon, extra cumin, paprika, harissa, Tabasco, salt, and pepper as seasoning. With the chicken, I saute onions and peppers. We like black beans the best with tacos. I used canned and add some harissa. We also liked to add roasted corn seasoned with salt and pepper. I like kind of plain guacamole: Just slightly chunky avocado, salt, a wee bit of cilantro, and lime. A little cheese, lettuce, and some sour cream top it off.

Taco bowls: Either chicken or shrimp with all the stuff listed above but separated out on top of rice so that it looks pretty.
That sounds really yummy...writes it down for a future project when it's not 93 out and hot in here...

Kat0121 Kat0121 yes The Whopper is the only thing I like for sandwiches. Their chicken nuggets are yucky..they do have good onion rings with that spicy horseradish sauce...I am sure the tacos won't be as good as taco bells..the taco bell ones have different flavor chip shells..they have doritos ones that are really good..haven't found them at the grocery store unfortunately.

I never heard of Jack In The Box..must be another fast food store?

Jack in the Box is mostly west coast now. When I was a kid in NY, we had a Jack's which was the same. It's long gone. I wish we had a JITB here in Florida

Tacos YAY!

When I was pregnant with our 20 yr old I craved Mexican and the craving never went away so hubby's learned how to cook Mexican. I like crunchy shells and corn tortillas (can't have flour) with all kinds of meat: beef, chicken, pork, fish, seafood... just not tripe or tongue. Usually we do them "Mexican" style - cilantro & onion - but our boys prefer "American" style with lettuce, tomato and cheese.

I like tacos, either soft or hard shell with any of the traditional fillings. I like a little sour cream and pico de gallo with them. Now that it is just me I don't make them anymore, they are one of those things that you can't make for just one. I used to go to Chipotle some but then they had a spate of reports of food poisoning and I haven't been back. If it were just once I wouldn't have thought anything about it, it happens no matter how clean the environment and how strict they are about food handling. There were multiple times in a row so I have shied away from them.

So this thread caused me to go through the taco bell drive-thru yesterday and order my favorite, the chicken quesarito. They were out of rice so couldn't make it. :bawling2: Not sure how taco bell runs out of rice for the day at 12:00.

I have a recipe for Thai tacos that is quite good. I cheat and use a premade slaw mix and add scallions -
