Anyone Else Have A "reminder" Cat, Not A Replacement But A "reminder" Of Ones Passed?

I know that I talk a lot on here about my little buddy Sylvester, and I just saw the thread where Gary T. talks about Theodore and his beloved Oliver who has passed, and I would like to hear about others who have a cat who is a "reminder" of lost loved ones, not a replacement but a reminder like Sylvester is to me of Simon and Sebastian who passed and who he is a "purrfect" 50/50 blend of those two boys, long hair with a big plume of a tail like Sebastian and a Tuxedo like Simon was, a wonderful tribute and reminder to me of those two great boys that we were lucky enough to have shared many great years with. I don't think about it consciously a lot like I used to when we first got him over 3 years ago, but it is always there in the back of my mind, he never was gotten to "replace" them but more as a living reminder of them plus he is a great cat in his own right, truthfully, I think losing those two and others makes me appreciate him even more.

I would love to hear any stories like this, and so would Sylvester! :clapcat:

Such a great idea for a thread. I wish that I would have thought of it!

Toby, our second Siamese, which we lost on 4-16-19 was a "reminder" kitty for Truman, our first ever Siamese. He was a wonderful little guy and he should still be with us today. Rest in peace Toby. We love you so much "big boy"!

My wife found Truman as a tiny kitten on the roadway in the Spring '95. That little fellow became king of the house at once. He stole my wife's heart, and never, ever gave it back. Sadly Truman passed on in the Summer of '07. He still is dearly missed after all of the years gone by.

Hopefully we will adopt another Siamese someday soon, but ya just never know. My wife has a special place in her heart for little Siamese tomcats, so I fully expect one will find his way home with her at some point in time.

I'm waiting that a tortie kitten crosses my path, I love torties, I had Lola who was a tortie cat.
I'm keeping waiting, but I hate waiting.
I fear that when I find one, it will be too late for me, and I won't be able to be with her for all the time needed...

I'm still waiting too......I think a 'reminder' cat would be a comfort. I can't believe I haven't had a 'Chrissy' come by, she was a black and silver tabby. Everytime I see one in the distance I think of her. Casper was so unique, he definitely had a Siamese personality, I don't think there could EVER be another like him, I still smile when I think of his bold, stubborn, totally clown like personality. In fact his nickname was Bobo (the clown)!

Yes. We have Butchie a longhair black and white because of our 1st cat Augie a long haired black and white.
They don't look exactly alike but pretty similar.
Personalities are similar also especially at the vet.:devilish:
Is he a Tuxedo? When Sylvester acts up I say it's his "Tuxittude" lol!!:D :clapcat:

I will have to find the photos. As a kid my mom had a cat Felix who we loved to pieces! He was an extrodinary cat! There is a picture of 2-3 year old me holding him by my arms crossed under his front legs.... and the poor cat’s back legs dangling just a bit above the ground. The look ‘the things I put up with’ on his face is priceless!

Then years later we found Sarah. She was a bottle baby with the same coat pattern. Years later I got Dante by random chance with the same coat pattern (again.)

Sarah (R.I.P.) during her stately senior years.

Bud (Dante) my beloved; I miss you! :

Dante passing the punk torch to Jackie and telling the kid everything will be fine because his mom would take care of him (& probably educating the kid on how to care for his human)

My first cat as an adult was Skittles. She was my 'only child', you know, that special one. :) I was devastated when she died in 2009.

Six years ago, we got Hannah. She reminded me so much of Skittles--she was more brown/orange than Skittles but had similar markings, and had the exact same tortitude and sassiness. I can't tell you how many times I called her 'Skittles' by mistake.

She's gone now, too, we lost her last month. RIP, my sweet little torties. :rbheart:

I currently don't, but keep finding myself wanting to adopt cats at the local shelter that I later realize it's because they remind me so much of the 2 cats I lost (one passed on 2.5 years ago and then Buddy was my other cat that passed away close to 2 months now).

I guess it's not so much that I want to replace them, but they were part of my life for 16 and almost 19 years, so it's probably just what i've known for so long.

Cara80 maybe look for a special needs cat (blind, deaf, or missing a leg) since they are still great pets that can live long healthy lives, have tons of love to give & are less likely to be adopted. You can love on a cat who needs it ..... and adopt a buddy cat for your cat when you find the right one.

Clove reminds me of Chai every day. Her personality is very different in some ways but she has the same curious, trusting, playful spirit. I adopted her only a few weeks after Chai died because I just couldn’t pass up another little calico girl with a spot next to her nose.

This is so true! We adopted an 8 week old little calico with her right front leg missing from the Vet's office . It seems a lady had brought her in to be "put down" because of a very serious, bloody, injury. Just so happens our Vet has a special place in his heart especially for calicos, so he amputated the mangled leg instead of killing the little calico kitten. A few days later he called this "lady" that had brought the kitten in. He told her that he had managed to save her life, and would like to give her the kitten, at no cost a Christmas present...she wanted NOTHING to with a three legged kitten.

I have had many fortunate things happen to me in my 66 years, but few things
have worked out any better for me than adopting this little three legged calico cat that I now call, "Patches". She has been with us now for over three years, and I couldn't possible begin to tell you folks how much joy, and pleasure she has brought into our home. She has so much life in her, that she often runs the other cats crazy! I wouldn't take a million dollars for her...and THAT ya can take to the bank... ;o)

What a lovely story!! My rescue kitty Chai that I shared above was also a three legged calico cat that nobody wanted. She was the best thing that ever happened to me and an incredibly special little angel. :hearthrob:

Baby Girl is a combination of 3 of my childhood cats. A tiny, sassy, takes no s*** from anyone tabby, a fluffy goof ball who was all fun and games, and the first tortie I ever owned that was a total sweet heart.
Baby Girl is tiny, she's sassy, she takes no s***, she's goofy and is all about her toys (and treats :D), and is a total sweet heart lap cat all at the same time. She's no replacement for them, and no one will ever replace her, but I like the idea of a "reminder" because that is a way to keep the ones who have passed with us.
Our asthmatic cat is a reminder of another cat we owned years before who looked the same, same coat type and color, and has the same name.
One of our dogs looks and acts very similar to a dog my Mother had. Maybe that's why this dog is my "pet" :cloud9:

I've just adopted one that reminds me of one of my dear old boys 'Sammy', who we lost a number of years ago. My new kitty is female (so quite the opposite), but the same striking ginger. I never had any preference when we decided to rehome another cat, as to the gender, breed, age, pattern, but she's come along as a coincidental reminder.
