My 2 year old female got pregnant and had kittens on June 17th. I have a small runt and started to bottle feed him. I'm using KMR, and I was told by a vet to feed him every 3 hours. I'v been doing that but most feedings when it comes to 3 hours, his stomach still feels full from the last feeding. Should I still continue to just feed him?

His other siblings are a lot bigger than him and just push him out of the way whenever it's feeding time from the mother. I'v continued to cancel plans with any friends to make sure he's getting on a nipple, or being fed by the KMR.

Any/all info with bottle feeding/kittens would be great since I'v never had a mother cat before and just want to make sure I'm doing everything right.

So the kitten is 4 weeks old now? Is he getting teeth yet? Does he seem hungry every 3 hours? How much is he drinking at a time?

I'm pretty sure they just turned a month old yesterday. Yes they all have teeth. I'v been filling up a syringe half way and he takes that. By the end, he ends up fighting and seems like he doesnt want anymore. I'm not sure exactly how much he's taking since all the ink rubbed off on the syringe. He fights anytime I try to feed him when the 3 hours rolls around but if I notice him trying to get a nipple and losing, I take him out and feed him then as well and sometimes that's not even three hours after I last fed him.

He must be nursing from mom. Perhaps when they begin eating wet food soon he will begin to gain more. Sounds like he’s a runt. My runt kitten is now my largest cat! In the meantime, supplement him every 4 hours. :)

At times he does nurse from her but she usually takes off before he's even finished. The kitten uncle (who he looks exactly like lol) was the runt of his litter and he's pretty huge now. I'll definitely do that then. I fed him right after I had replied last time. I'm just worried he might not make it. He's extremely small and way behind his siblings. When do they start on wet food and what kind should I get once they can have it?

I prefer Fancy Feast kitten wet food. Initially you can mix it with some of the formula to make a mush. Try it whenever you feel they may be ready - usually at 4-5 weeks after the kittens baby teeth have come in. :)

I'll have my roommate pick some up tomorrow and we can try next week

Unfortunitely, the runt didn't make it. My roommate and I came home and found him deceased. We made a grave and a small little headstone for him.

:alright: Condolences on your sad loss
When my daughter's cat had kittens, the runt didn't make it either. I know it is small comfort but when they slip away quietly and easily, it is a mercy. Probably an internal defect. How is mama kitty handling it?

She had completely abandoned him by this point. She kept laying on top of him and taking him out of the box. He was just starting to come around :/ So she's not fazed by it. She's trying to take care of the others, but my roommates not pleased with her right now. We've been switching them to wet kitten food and mixing the KMR with it. She's going in the box at night to give them milk.

My roommate and I blame ourselves since we figured out that she had stopped caring for him completely and we kept putting him back in the box. I kept mentioning bringing him to the vet and he didn't listen so he's definitely taking this death harder than I am (which is saying something actually). He pretty much wants nothing to do with the mother. I'v tried to explain to him that some mothers do that when they don't think ones going to survive. But he's not listening

I'm so sorry about the kitten. You did everything you could.

Do you need help finding a low cost spay/neuter clinic in your area? Mom can be fixed in about a month, and then none of you ever need to go through this again.
