But she won't let anyone come near her. My heart is breaking in two. If something happens to her Treasure would be unconsolable as well as me since Shaman came to me first. I can't get her. I don't know what to do. It's 120 degrees in the shade and that's not counting the heat index. :(

Ice water asap if u can get her food to her, can u get ice water? The fan is good but may be hard since she's unreachable. Anything to cool her & is she outside completely?

She was a feral cat that I was so close to taming. I tried cooling her but she just ran off. Into an area that is dangerous for me to go into as lots of bad stuff in there. She did eat good, but since I never dealt with this sort of thing before I have no idea what a heat stroke in a cat is. Which is why I titled this I Think: Treasure seems ok and the two of them were together all morning. We don't have outdoor plugs and my Mom is fatally allergic to cats so I'm in this horrible tragic situation. I'm surprised no one has seen all my posts about the situation here.

Oh and she ate wet food, not dry food. She wouldn't go to the water at all. Like I said she ate well, ran the distance of 1/4 acre in a few seconds, but she appeared to be panting. I don't know. No one in my city helps me or tells me what to look for in such a situation

I put out more ice water but my stupid neighbor keeps coming outside scaring hr away. My heart is breaking. I can't jeopardize my health or the other 4 cats won't get fed at all. I'm so lost as to what to do. :(

I hope she doesn't die. If you never see me on here again you know she did. I am so very worried and no one in my neighborhood helps. No one has since this all started last year. :(

Well if it makes you feel any better, I had 5 outdoor cats when I was a kid and they survived the summers. They must have known where to find shade.
Thanks. I wasn't sure what the signs of heat stroke in a cat was. Treasure did let me cool her off with a cool damp cloth and I did manage to get Shaman's head but that's about it. The only thing I noticed was Shaman had her mouth open like she was panting but everything else was fine. Do they cool themselves off panting like a dog does?

I used to have 3 feral cats living on my deck. We had a very hot summer a few years back. They all did just fine. They hid most of the time. Remember cats are very resourceful. They will look for a cool place.

I tried placing ice cubes, wet wash clothes, a fan, etc... They wanted nothing to do with it. They were foreign objects to them. Trust that the cats will find a cool place. Also during very hot water, many cats choose not to eat much. They will wait until it's much cooler. Just keep plenty of water scattered around in shady places.

Thank you. So I guess Shaman eating the food was a good sign. I don't think anything will take away Treasure's appetite, but she eats a few bites every 30 minutes or so. I have like 10 water bowls sitting out. Sadly I wasn't home this morning (errands with Mom) so I wasn't able to change the water out to more cool water during the day. Treasure and Shaman usually love ice water. The other 3 (yes even the invisible Shadow) are not quite as used to all of that stuff).

None of my cats would ever have let me put water on them, they hate getting wet.
I didn't put water on Treasure. I just had a slightly damp cool cloth I wiped her with. But she runs around in the rain so maybe getting wet doesn't bother her that much.

Panting, I think, is normal. Zoe does it when she's out in this heat. I noticed her running around and then went under the porch to cool off, and she was panting, she's perfectly fine. Cats are very resourceful, they will find ways to keep cool.

Thanks all for putting my mind at ease. I sat outside a bit with them this afternoon and it is a scorcher out there. Treasure is unfazed by it all.

I sure do hope Shaman is ok. Treasure is outside now running around crying for Shaman. She started this just a bit ago. :(

Cats know how to stay cool. The only time they would get heat stroke is if they were trapped in the sun or an enclosed area and couldn't find a cool patch of shade to sleep in. They are descended from desert cats after all. She'll be fine.

One of my mom's cats will sit on the deck and pant. She's allowed inside whenever she wants. So someone will open the door and tell her to come inside where it's cool. But nope. She'd rather sit on the deck and pant. Silly cat! I think she goes under the deck when nobody is outside with her though.

We normally get summer temperatures in the 100s where I am. While I've seen cats die from dehydration, ones with access to water usually manage just fine. If you have any bushes or trees just water them in the morning. The soil under will stay damp in the shade long enough, usually, to be a cool spot on the ground during the worst of the heat. If you have concrete, sidewalk or stones in shade you can soak them too and they will stay cooler. My cats usually spread out everytime they aren't moving when it is really hot to get cooled off by the ground temperature.

Thank you. Yea we have 120 and 135 heat index. This is the hottest we had it here in St Louis. A lot of it is because of the rains and flooding of the 2 rivers (Missouri River and Mississippi River) that run through St. Louis. We always did have high humidity but never this bad. I was barely able to breathe outside it was so bad and we had to get groceries.

I don't know much about their background. I know they were part of a hoarding situation with 80 cats and these cats were feral (now lap cats if only Mom would let in but can't due to allergies But whether the man let these cats stay inside during the heat or just left the door open I have no idea as to what he did as he's passed away and his relatives live out of state. I don't think it was this hot last year when Shaman showed up but then I was recovering from a fractured humerus and the temps outside felt good as the injur caused me to be so cold my fingers turned blue.
