Yes, it's 1000+ per kilogram. (Which is kind of a silly figure to put on a can with only a small fraction of that kilogram!)

So don't worry, that can of Friskies is just fine! The more Friskies you can feed (instead of dry food) the better, really, for weight maintenance/management to keep Lightning at her good weight. And, hopefully, to keep Fang from getting too attached to dry food -- some cats get kind of addicted to it, which can cause problems, too! (Our cats were kind of fixated on dry food when we adopted them but we took them off it when they were around a year old. I'm very glad we did, particularly because they do have weird digestive issues!)

Just to point out that appearances can be misleading, this is a recent picture of Rocket. She is around 8 pounds and does have a little pouch:

In photos and at first glance she may seem a little chunky but.... Her collar is at the smallest size for an adult collar (I can still put three fingers under it, and she is wearing a collar in all the photos). The pouch is just skin and fur. I can feel every rib and her spine, with a thin layer of fat over it. Her vet is absolutely set on she is not allowed to drop below 7.5 pounds; which she gets to in the summer when she looses the fluff somewhat. She is just a very barrel chested, short legged cat with off proportions.

Going just by photos is really hard. Which is why feeling your cat and figuring out what is right for them is so important.

I was just trying to make sure she wasn't getting to pudgy. When they spayed her recently I was able to get a better look at her belly and it just looked a little pudgy. Lol. And she is a very heavy girl. But I have looked at what all I am feeding her as suggested and have come to the conclusion that I am giving her around 340 cals. per day (excluding the few temptations treats I give every so often) I keep trying to get Fang to eat the canned food, but at the moment she just has 0 interest. She turns her nose up and walks away. So I just put it back in the fridge and try again later. Sometimes she eats it, but not often. Any ideas on how to get her to want the wet food? Thanks to everyone for helping me out here. :)

I wish I could get a pic of her actually belly. I will keep trying. She doesn't like to cooperate. :)

Cooperative cats are a rarity!

And Kieka Kieka 's Rocket is so much like our Edwina, who is also a snowshoe and also fluffy, puffy, and pouched! I can easily feel her spine, too, and the ribs are also definitely there. She, though, would eat nonstop if allowed so we're pretty careful with her food.

As for Fang (what a great name for a cat!), sometimes it's possible to get a cat to eat more wet food if you sprinkle some crumbs of dry food on top. It often has to be crumbs, not whole kibbles, which they can take out too easily. (Again, they just don't always enjoy cooperating...)

I don't know if it was a great idea or not, but she loves tuna, so I mixed a small amount into the wet food and she finally ate about half of what I normally try to give her.

And both my babies are aptly named. Fang got her name because she chews on EVERYTHING. And Lightning got hers because she zips through the house at 90 to nothing (practically running a kitty Daytona 500 through my living room everyday.) :)

Well, Fang and our Ireland have even more in common now: Ireland is a terrible shredder and gnawer. (Watch out for your shoelaces... and even your shoes! Ireland loves leather.) Both our cats run at lot, even at their adult age -- they turn six today and are still very active.

Tuna's not good to feed often but maybe tiny bits will help Fang see that canned food isn't so bad? Also, if you're only feeding one kind of canned food, it might be worth mixing things up a little, with different flavors and even different brands. Some cats get sick to their stomachs if the food's changed often but most do fine when their canned foods are rotated.

I mix out the flavors, but I stick to one brand. (Turkey, mixed grill, chicken, salmon, and sea food medley). Maybe I will try another brand with her. I didn't put in a lot of tuna. Maybe one teaspoon mixed into the food, mainly for smell. But I will try the idea of crushing her kibble on top. (Or maybe her treats, she loves those to).

She didn't like the Rachel ray stuff at all. Would barely sniff at it. :/

Finally got everyone sorted I think. Fang still doesn't want to eat canned food, she is so picky. When she does it is only one or two kinds that she likes. (Small amounts - 1/4 of the can) however after giving her some hairball remedy she has begun to put on some weight. (Not sure if that had anything to do with it or was just coincidence). Lightning has trimmed down a little but not much. She is looking more normal to me now though. I'm happy with both of them. They are beautiful babies. :)

So the one sister I thought was chunky has thinned down and the skinny one has chunked up. Lol.
Good! What sweet cats!

And it's funny: our cats had their annual exam last week and I thought Ireland, our skinnier cat, had finally gained a bit more weight. But no, she was almost exactly the same as last year. At least Edwina didn't gain!
