Hello,

I have a cat that's a little under a year old and he's started spraying in the house. He mostly sprays baseboards, low walls. I need suggestions on what your favorite cleaner is to use to wipe out those odors for good in those tricky areas.

I'm getting him neutered on Friday and I'd like to buy an enzyme based cleaner to wipe any tempting odors from the house when he feels better to prevent more spraying if possible.

Long story short, what's your favorite product to clean spraying/marking from baseboards/paint/hardwood floors? Will I have to repaint?

Any advice would be wonderful! Thank you!

Hi. I have heard from other members about two products they swear by - Fizzion and SCOE10x. Both are safe for hardwood. I am not sure, but think they both might have to be purchased on-line. I don't think it will affect the paint, but I can't attest to that. If you do an internet search on them, you can probably make sure one way or the other.

Do you know if you have strays/ferals wandering past? If you do and you're able to do this, take some cloths sprayed with lemon scented furniture polish and scatter them around the yard(s). Cats typically don't like citrus. Or you could obtain a motion activated sprinkler :)

Also, just to note in case you aren't familiar, be aware that his system will need some time for the testosterone to be eliminated.

Nature’s Miracle is the enzyme cleaner that I use and recommend. You need to be sure that you use enough of the product to wet down the urine spots. You can use a black light to make sure you have found every spot.

Thank you so much for your replies! I've ordered an enzyme cleaner and a blacklight from amazon. They arrive tomorrow.

But just out of curiosity, has anyone had any luck neutralizing odors with vinegar? I see that recommended a lot. I'm just so stressed and paranoid about my house smelling like cat pee. :/ I don't have the best nose so it's hard.

Also, is there a difference in cat spraying vs cat urine? I'm sorry if that's a silly question.

that's a silly question.
Not a silly question at all :) Neutering a tomcat will help decrease the potency of the odor but otherwise what's being eliminated during spraying and peeing is urine.

A blacklight, as mentioned, will help a lot to pin down any spots/areas that might otherwise be missed during cleaning.

I've personally only used store-bought products. Until someone here who has sees your post and has a chance to respond, here are a couple of articles that may help ;
