Hi there,

I suspect my kitty might be a Russian Blue or a Russian Blue mix and I was wondering if it would be worth getting my cat DNA tested.
She fits all the discriptions perfectly with appearance and behaviour. She is just under 4 months and some green has started appearing in her yellow eyes.

Please let me know if you think she fits the appearance enough to get tested?

She does resemble a Russian Blue! She’s very pretty! I think she looks fluffier than a Russian Blue, but her silvery blue fur color and her head shape look close to a Russian Blue. She may have Russian Blue ancestry, but it’s also possible that she happens to have a similar appearance to one. So, she would be called a blue Domestic Shorthair. You could also call her a Maltese cat. You could get her DNA tested if you’re curious, that will let you know if she has genetic similarities to a Russian Blue, or maybe another breed.

No, I am not seeing resemblance to the Russian Blue breed. Russian Blues have green eyes, straight nose profile, larger ears and eyes than your kitty, and more refined structure. I would describe your kitty as a lovely blue domestic shorthair. Blue is a common color in domestic cats and doesn't indicate specific breed ancestry. Most cats are not any particular breed.

Thank you so much for your response. I also think she's rather pretty :) Her shape is so different to my other cats - which made me wonder about her ancestry. My other cats have Persian in them so that may have been the reason why I did not register that she is on the fluffy side. I really appreciate your feedback.

Wrong eye color! Not all russians have really good green, mine doesnt. But it shall be green.

Very pretty and much rb look alike otherwise!
Thank you for your response. I also thought her eyes should be greener but I have heard that RB's eyes transition from yellow to green at 4 months. I have noticed that some green is now appearing in her eyes.

Thank you so much for feedback. I am not very knowledgable in this department so I really appreciate your insight. I have been very curious about her ancestry/DNA because she is so different to my other cats.

It's normal that she would be different from your other cats, if they have Persian in them :)

She is a lovely cat, but most likely she simply has her own special combination of traits from the domestic cat gene pool. Unlike dogs, most cats are simply domestic cats and do not have ancestry from any breed.
