If/when i trap him (feral tom of 3-4yrs old) is he too old to risk vaccines & cancer from it? Also, our indoor girl is 11-12 & she only had vaccines in 2009 when we took in her stray. So, protect her but how? How to lower his risk as well re cancer or sarcomas? Lost on this if vet asks me, as I want them both safe medically yet no idea how & what need be done. THX:)

Mods, if this is best in another forum, please do so!;)

I understand your concerns. First off, check the laws in your area. I think that rabies is probably required. I know that there are questions about health concerns when it comes to immunizations. I am not a vet and your vet can best answer your questions. I do get my all of cats immunized as well as all of my previous rescues. They range in age from kittens to 12 year old cats. They are all indoor only cats. In order to get kitties adopted out here, it is a must. I have not had any cat develop cancer to date. All remain healthy so far and at the no one has gotten sick at immunization time. Talk to your vet about your concerns. They can advise you best. I hope this helps. I’ve immunized well over 100 cats in two years. Cats living with me have been immunized twice in that two years time period.

If it helps, we've had over 20 cats through the years. In the past we were told to get every vaccine every year, so we did. None of our cats developed injection site cancer. Some did get intestinal cancer when they were between the ages of 17-19.

TY both & I will let vet decide what to do, you're right. I'm untrained & paranoid to do wrong for either cat here, so will kick it up to more knowledge/experience. I just am leery of vaccines in cats, as often indoor cats need less just to avoid problems down the road.

TY as I will let vet decide. Too many times I make choices but they're wrong or due to paranoia/fear/anxiety of doing wrong thing. Error on caution is best here & vet is trained as an all-cat vet ONLY so she knows more than I'll ever know! :) ;)
