Okay, I'd never noticed one before then ran across this article on the Dodo. "Ruby had recently become interested in the salt lamp used to decorate the lounge. By licking the lamp, the small cat had ingested a toxic level of sodium, which caused her brain to swell, resulting in neurological problems." She recovered.

If You Have Pets, Watch Out For This Common Household Item

Here's what they look like

If I missed a post about this, sorry.

The one in that article sure seemed to like it. I've never seen one of
those lamps before, still haven't seen one in person. I just scanned a couple of pages in cat health. With luck I'll remember to search in the future.

I have a salt lamp. Thankfully none of my cats have ever taken an interest.
They are made from a chunk of himalayan salt, so yes they are very salty (don't ask how I know!LOL!) I wonder what would cause a cat to enjoy the taste of the salt?

I've had some that loved potato chips and others liked fries, but then I had one who commandeered pound cake.

I wear natural deoderant that is literally a hunk of salt that you wet, rub on your armpits, and let dry. I've only seen him do it once, but I've had to shoo Emerson away from licking it!

Huh that's interesting. I don't have any salt lamps, though I do like the color of light they emit, but I'd never have guessed cats might lick them! Good to know.

I should probably not get any, then, because my cat (and my previous one, too) both seem to LOVE salty things. They'll lick the salt of foods if I leave them out. My first cat used to lick my partner's skin and hair. She only licked my skin after I'd been sweating, so I assume it was the salt..?

We have a couple of salt lamps. Thankfully, none of our nine have the slightest interest in them.
