Just saw this on my Facebook feed :

Hill's Quench

The idea is that this water is better for hydration because cats have a rough tongue and they can lick it better. Is there an eye roll emote?

Ingredients:
Filtered Water
Methylcellulose

As far as I know, Methyl cellulose is a laxative?

I think this is an expensive marketing gimmick and that promoting wet food is still better than this product.

What are your thoughts?

My personal opinion is that it's a marketing gimmick :rolleyes2:

Yes, cats have rough tongues, but they've also been drinking plain water for hundreds, probably thousands of years without needing a thickener.

Exactly! I know people say don't reinvent the wheel but I think "don't reinvent water" might be a step farther than that

I think it may be useful for some sick cats so I'm glad it exists. But if anyone is buying it for their perfectly healthy cat I think my eyes might roll out of my head!

Would it then confuse you more if they specifically state "Recommended for healthy cats"

Of course they do; it's $2.50 per container, for just water and a bit of thickener!

Maybe I'll sign up for the sample, lol. Not sure if $3 is worth it yet though. . .

For the sample, you get 4 containers, with each having about 11 oz. So not bad. I'm always looking for ways to get more water to my senior cat.
But the Methylcellulose in it looks like it has laxative properties so in the long run it would be used carefully.
I wonder if you make a similar concoction at home. The Methylcellulose is what gels and thickens the water, to like a nectar like consistancy.

It is an intriguing idea. I bet a little unflavored gelatin would work, with the bonus of being good for arthritis. I might give that a try, see if the kitties like it.
I save up bones I can't feed and make broth on occasion for the dogs, the cats seem to find it acceptable too.

I saw this in my FB feed also, and paid the $3 shipping. I have 4 cats (all make), one is 18+, one has a thyroid condition, and 2 have had plugged urethras. They all loved it. This was definitely worth the $3 shipping!
