Hello!

My husband and I ordered four sureflap microchip feeders and they arrived today. I got them set up for three of our cats with no issues and the cats took to them well. Our fourth cat, Puzzles, is a very large cat - long, tall, and lean. When I tried to set it up for him, the feeder wouldn't register his microchip unless he was nearly halfway through the ring and wouldn't open for him after it was registered. I tried adding him to one of the other feeders and it wouldn't work there either. I know his chip is working, because after a long time of repositioning him, I can get it to work, but he isn't patient enough to wait for the bowl to open on his own, considering how much he has to move around before it works for him.

I'm wondering if he is too big or tall for the ring and none of the sensors can read his chip easily? Or maybe the bowl is faulty? Maybe his microchip has slipped and isn't where it's supposed to be? I'm getting frustrated, he's getting frustrated. Anyone else have issues with this? Tips?

Help!

Have you asked Sure Pets, the manufacturer? Last time I had a question, they got back to me within a day. I think they also have support forums too.

I tried calling them, but got no response. I'm going to try again in the morning.

You could take Puzzles to your vet and ask them to scan for the chip. They can get a pretty good idea where it's located.

That's a good idea. Thankfully we've never needed his microchip for anything in his 8 years, as he's an indoor cat and has never gotten out, so I've never had to deal with anything like this.
