my vet told me to buy Frontline plus and i was going to buy from amazon i saw bad reviews what should i do im scared to buy can anyone tell me good and safe flea treatment??

I use Frontline Plus with no problems.

I've been using Frontline for a long time without any problems. There are always going to be some cases where cats are allergic to a product that doesn't affect most other cats. (I can't take penicillin, but most people can. It's the same kind of thing.)

Revolution is another good brand, if you don't want to use Frontline.

Is this the first time your cats are being treated for fleas?

As said, any medicine can have adverse effects. I suggest applying it when you will be home so you can watch for any signs of problems and also do it during your vets office hours. That way if there is a reaction (NOT common) you can get help right away. Be very careful about buying on line. Order only from a known source as there have been reports of people selling bogus flea medicines. I use BudgetPetWorld. The prices are reasonable and I have never had a problem with them

I have two 3 month old cats that I applied frontline to and it doesn't seem to have worked. I've heard good things about Revolution and Advantage. Which would you guys recommend?

You might want to check with your vet and find out if Frontline isn't as effective in your area (some of these treatments have been overused in one area or another and the fleas have become somewhat resistant to them), and if so, which of the other topical treatments are better suited for your region. I used to use Advantage and it was fine. Also have heard from many on this site that Revolution is good too.

We’ve had good luck so far with Revolution.

Selena, don't know where you're at, but in my area (metro Detroit--I keep trying to add my location to my profile, but TCS doesn't save the data) Revolution seems to work better than Frontline Plus. That's been my experience.

V vince - re: location - I believe if you click on your avatar, you should get a drop down box - click on Personal Details. Within that section you should find "Location".

I spent too much money on a Seresto Flea Collar last August. But he didn't like it and it gave him a rash, so after three days I cut it off. A week later I found a dead flea on his head. So I got out the superglue, glued the collar back together, and wrapped part of it with cloth tape. When he started scratching again, I put it back on. Left it on a week, cut it off, and put it back in the tin. I have been doing this for a year, whenever he scratches a flea, I put the collar on for a week, then cut it off and superglue it. It has been working for a year now.
I think he gets the fleas from his Girlfriend. They say fleas don't jump from cat to cat but they wrestle and play pretty hard. She is a feral outside cat and only comes inside in the mornings to play and have cat breakfast. I can't get close to her, but they are buddies. I have to leave the door open or she freaks out, but he doesn't even try to go outside. I bought another new collar and it's in reserve for if I can ever get close enough to her : )

So my problem is this why would i risk I don’t want any side effects i want 100% safe i have 5 cats and they lick each other also

There is no such thing as 100% safe I'm afraid. There is always a slight possibility that a cat will have an allergic reaction to a product. That's why it's best to use new products when you are going to be around to take action if anything does go wrong.

They won't lick the medicine off each other. It tastes nasty. You could always use a tablet form of a flea medicine, such as Capstar, if that worries you.

As Norchan said nothing is 100% and they won't lick it because of taste. As for Capstar that is good for only 24 hours so it could get expensive if you have an infestation in your house. You must treat the house because if there are fleas on your pet there are fleas in your house.

She said she’s been seeing lately that Revolution just doesn’t work as well as it used to. She now recommends Bravecto instead.

I’ve ordered some. I hope it works—only having to apply it once every three months instead of every month will be nice.

Thanks for that information. I'm taking one of the cats in for their annual check up on Saturday and will see what the vet says about that.

Revolution and Bravetco (and some other topicals) actually work by absorbing through the skin and into the blood stream. Products like Frontline and Advantage (and others) don't work that way. There will be some very small amounts of these latter types that do get into the system through the skin but they don't work by entering the blood stream like Revolution and Bravetco do. I'm not saying that products like Bravetco aren't safe for most animals. Just that the mechanism of action is different. And, it does have me wondering whether the apparent higher incidence of problems and concerns with some of these products is due to their mechanism of action. I also think that the observation that problems sometimes don't occur until after several applications also may have merit. It's seems logical anyway but I'm not a scientist or doctor. Just seems like a common sense possibility. I'm more leary of these types of products but again, I have no personal experience with them. Just a very bad experience with an older product called Proban (oral flea medicine) many, many years ago that has me leary off by any flea product that works by entering the bloodstream.

Why u have to apply every month?? I didn’t know that so all cats or just cats with fleas im confuse

It is suggested to use monthly. You may not see a flea, but your cat could have them.
