Thank you all for your support.
Kumal had a small fit. Not because he liked him at all. Even though I removed all the bedding, I hadn't steam cleaned the carpet yet. I was trying to sleep...did you know the sun starts to come up at 4:15 am...and he smelled where the beagle had slept, looked at me lying down and ran to me and smash his head into mine...repeatedly. Death has a distinct smell and he has some serious PTSD from his past. He has not left my side.

Yeah, the loss of a family member is deeply felt, no matter the relationship.

I'm doing okay. His body has been slowly shutting down for some time now. I didn't have him put down because he was happy and didn't seem to be in any pain. Even at the end he never even whimpered. I had been expecting it and even had a hole dug.

It wasn't the dog. Kumal's owner had died and he and another cat were left alone in the house for some time. The other cat was adopted almost immediately once they were at the shelter, but being black and shy, Kumal was overlooked for months. I guess he would run and hide from everyone when they approached. Until me. When I opened his cage he ran to me and lept into my arms and draped himself across my shoulder. So I took him home. He has always licked everyone's nose when they are asleep (to make sure they are still alive?), but last night was bad for him.

Update on Shane:
The biopsy came back as a very aggressive cancer. They said he is going to have surgery to remove the tumer next week, not sure what day, then they will do chemo and it can take up to a year for recovery. If they don't do surgery he only has 2 months to live.

Let's hope that the surgery works. Just in case I'm wrong and there is a God, I will say a prayer and light a candle for him.

kashmir64 kashmir64 Good on ya for adopting Kumal! Please give him some extra SNORGLES from me. People don't realize cats have deep feelings. Some "experts" believe they are more sensitive than humans and judging by the humans I've known and the cats I've known, they're definitely correct.
Alicia88 Alicia88 *PRAYERS* from the heart for Shane. Any more words would be trite and they would serve little if any purpose. Know that he and his entire family including you are in my *PRAYERS* and my thoughts.

I had a stage 4 cancer in my colon and it was surgically removed, I had chemo and radiation and lived for almost a year in a doze or whatever. That whole year (2001) is nothing that I really remember besides awful bouts of diarrhea and watching the cooking channel although I don't remember any of that really either. I only had my daughter who had a severe heart condition to help me, she did as well as she could although by the time I finally got well enough to notice the house needed a thorough cleaning (you've never seen so many dust bunnies under a bed!) She did as much as she could but we could not effort a house cleaner. How the laundry and cooking got done I don't know, I'm sure we did not eat take-out as we could not afford it. Thank goodness we had a dishwasher. My fellow employees and even my boss donated vacation time so I could still have a paycheck after I had used up my own and my sick leave and disability had run out. Bless them all. Not until after that year I could take in what had happened in NYC with the Towers having been destroyed, at the time it just sort of went by me and left no impression. I HAVE BEEN CLEAR OF CANCER SINCE THEN. A GOOD ATTITUDE HELPS. I NEVER THOUGHT THAT I WOULD DIE, I JUST SAID THAT THE DOCTORS WOULD CUT THAT THING OUT, IT WOULD BE RADIATED TO DEATH AND THE REST WOULD BE DESTROYED BY CHEMO AND IT DID. So keep a good attitude, I think that is what kept me alive.

I am sorry to hear this. I have been praying for him and will continue to do so.

Thanks for asking, but he's doing better than Onsa. The Beagle was her buddy. They slept together, played together and on occasion she would steal bits of his food. He shared with her. I made sure she saw him before we buried his body, so she's not calling for him, she's just moping around.

Oh no. Poor baby. Makes me sad. So they were buds. So difficult when we lose a baby and the ones left behind are struggling. Please give her a hug from me and my girls and for you and Kumal as well.:hugs:

I wish I had the power of teleportation. I have put off going to the neighboring town as long as I can. It's the only place I can get Pro Plan dog/cat food and I am almost out. But everybody from the valley is up here for the 4th of July weekend. I'll just treat it like Christmas...no use in being in a hurry.
I'll just put on my favorite CD (Dio and friends) and try to avoid the drunk idiots on the road.
