I put Patches in the basement and plug up the basement window with memory mattress foam. I also have a 1/16" piece of 2'x4' lead sheet glued onto a piece of 2" thick birch wood I put up there to block even more sound. All of it blocks about 70% of the noise. The closer low frequency fireworks are harder to block. Patches seems to be more afraid of the higher pitch firecracker noises. I also play tunes from You Tube to help block it out. The central AC unit is down there too, so that helps too.

Young people really enjoy lighting off fireworks. I loved doing it when I was a teen, now I find it annoying has hell.

Sounds like a war zone here. This is the worst I remember.

Cats aren't doing too badly. Meep is in the bedroom with me, playing with her collar that she managed to get off. Chesterfield is sleeping on the rug outside the bedroom. Sir Eats-A-lot is sleeping on the floor under the night stand.

It's now just past 10:30 here and much quieter after a barrage of neighborhood fireworks. The younger ones drank too much and have passed out until they revive for Round 2. The older ones drank enough it is probably over for them tonight!! Lol.

We watched fireworks on TV while keeping Feeby company. Between the music on TV and us talking to her, she rested beside me and tried to sleep. At 14+ yo, I think she thought 'screw it, I am too old for this sh--'!

Disclaimer: I had a drink or two also!

Happy 4th!

Entire neighborhood is full of smoke. And the bushes the cats hide in caught on fire. Some people have been evacuated. So sadly I may never see Treasure or Shaman again as they had to run a long ways to be safe. :(

Willow went into hiding around 9:00, when the little firecrackers started going off and didn’t come out until this morning. But that is pretty normal hiding behavior for her, whether it is from people talking in the street, a car door slamming etc.

Well Treasure is back. Being so bad last night I left food for them in case. A raccoon ate but under tge circumstances I’m letting that slide by. Right now we have property damage from neighbor shooting off the fireworks

Yikes - and I thought my neighborhood was bad! Since fireworks have been made legal in my city it has gotten much worse. I love my country, but I can do without the neighborhood fireworks.

Patches made it through it all... she was under my feet/couch until about 11pm. She was afraid, but not petrified like some cats are.

I really feel sorry for the ferals!... no way for them to really escape all that noise. Mine all came to eat this morning and seem fine.

Luckily fireworks are banned in my city due to the risk of wildfires. So a couple of minutes of far off fireworks and it was over. My boy was just curious but not scared.

I’m glad Treasure made it back! I hope your other community cats make it back to.

Fireworks are banned in my city except for parks under supervision but the cops do nothing to enforce it. Several people are in hospital from fireworks causing burns to their bodies that others were shooting off.

Yes Shaman and Treasure were outside this morning. I did leave food out for them last night because of the fireworks but not sure if the racoon got it. If so the racoon gets a pass as well. The one time he did show up he almost got singed by a flying firework from next door and ran off.

Still no sign of Shadow but if she hasn't been spotted on the side of the road or dead in bushes maybe she found a colony she's accepted or someone took her in. I hope.

Is it normal for a cat to be lethargic on a day after last night (fireworks)? I know cats sleep 95% of the time but Treasure seems very lethargic. I just hope she's not sick.

She's probably just worn out from being scared.

Inconsiderate people in my neighborhood still lighting them off tonight. Patches is scared again. If it were up to me, I would ban all fireworks for amateurs.

Thank you. I guess Treasure feels safe in the stairwell. Too bad Mom won’t let her in though. I just never saw her this lethargic. Usually she’s a bundle of energy.
