Do any of you also have sounds or words for prey that you think your cat might like to see and hunt?

Milly makes this clacking chirpy sound when she sees crows or seagulls outside the windows, so we try to imitate that noise when we see them -- it makes her at least stroll to the window in a pseudo-bored fashion and glance outside. But if we yell, "It's a bug! it's a bug!" she comes galloping as she knows that means a fly, a moth, or a spider. Those are a lot of fun. We also make this certain clacking sound when we see a squirrel outside or what we call, "morsels" (small finches or small songbirds), and she runs for those too. When trash trucks drive by, we yell, "It's your boyfriend!" and make a high keckkeckkeck sound -- another gallop to the windows and she looks out.

Pallina :heartshape:

Antonio65 Antonio65 , when I lost my last cat, I journaled a lot and made sure to write down all the memories I could think of, including words and phrases we shared that she reacted to, plus all of her nicknames. I didn't want to forget those things.

You did the best thing!
I rely too much on my memory, but I'm not sure I will remember everything in 10 years time.

Casper knows that "cookie" means it's time for a kitty treat and he knows that "tuna" means it's time for some canned food.

He only gets real tuna as an occasional treat. Mostly when we make something with tuna for dinner. We leave him some bits of tuna and some tuna juice. Only about a tablespoon full. Too much tuna isn't good for cats.

Casper also knows the word, "door." He likes to sit by the sliding patio door and watch for birds and squirrels. If he hears us sliding the door open he'll come a-runnin'. If we ask him if he wants the door open he'll go and sit by the door until we open it for him.

The screen door is made from "cat proof" screen and we have Velcro tabs to hold it shut so he doesn't accidentally push the door open.

One day he did, somehow, push the screen open about two feet. When I came into the living room, Casper was just sitting there in his spot, watching birds, just like nothing was wrong. He didn't even seem to want to go outside.

I guess the first time Casper reacted to a word was when we said, "Puddy Tat."

I was sitting on the sofa, watching TV, when Casper came over and I said, "Hey, Puddy Tat!" He looked at me, perked up his ears and came over for some petting and attention.

Since that day, he gets called "Puddy Tat" more often than his own name.

Sometimes I wonder if he thinks his name is "Puddy Tat," now. ;)

While not the first thing my cats responded to, they do respond to the word "Moth!" as something that means there's flying prey.

You should try, "Mothra!"

Not counting 'NO' and 'Get Down', the one word I know Melody understands the meaning is 'snuggle'. I happened to use that soon after adopting her to mean when I pet her and she started to go to where she gets snuggles when I said it. [Smaller cat tree and on the bed are her favorites]

The first thing Salem learned was "Are you hungry?" That in it self is not too unusual. What was interesting is that she learned it in a week at only 5 weeks old. Every morning I would walk up to her play pen and say " Good Morning Salem!". Sleepy kitten: "Meep". "Are you hungry?" Now fully awake kitten: " SQUEAK, Mew, Squeak ,SQUEAK! " I used to joke that Salem need to be oiled. lol

"Ready". He would bother me while I was working at the computer, so I would make balls of paper and throw them at him. I called it "Cat Baseball" He would catch them and bat them around and then get them under the closet door. I would hold up a new one and say "Ready" and he would shake his ass and concentrate on the ball of paper in my hand. So when I say "Ready" he expects me to throw something at him.

Now he knows "Come here" "Jump" "Stay" "Get the Fishies" (touchpad game) "Paw" all of them trained. He also knows "Hungry","Your Girlfriend" (the stray cat that comes to play and eat at the patio door) and "Bedtime".

I suppose their names. Remy also quickly learned that me saying "Hey!" harshly means to stop being a brat (aka biting me). He also knows to come to me when I say, "Come here!" With Maisie, it's difficult to tell what she knows because she is so shy. Every time I leave for work I say, "Bye guys! I love you! I'll see you later," and Remy knows that I'm leaving.

For my two girls it was their name. Still to this day, they respond.

me: Onsa
Onsa: sqeak (she doesn't meow)
me: ONsa
Onsa: squeak
me: OnSAA
Onsa: squeak
This will go on until I tire of it. Same with Samai, but her's is a more deep throated...roar.
Onsa will also come running if I tap my nails on the counter.

Kumal doesn't respond like this just yet. Only had him 4 months. But he does look at me if I call his name.
