Hello, I recently found a kitten and around 3-4 weeks old it appeared solid black and white. Now at 6-8 weeks he seems to have grey/silver tabby markings developing. Do you have any ideas what genes/colors he may be presenting or will he grow out of this? I apologize for the blurry/misshapen pictures, it is hard to photograph a moving target.

Very cute! Your kitten is definitely not a blue kitten, and he is also not a tabby... He's probably going to be black and white, as it's common for solid colored cats (black or blue) to have faint tabby "ghost markings" that fade as they mature. It is also possible that he may develop smoke coloring, in which case he would be black smoke and white. Smoke cats have white at the base of each hair.

That stripe down his back is too cute! I could be wrong but, the stripe and the little bit of white flecks on his black makes me think he may have had a fever coat and it is growing out. But, taking a closer look they could also be ghost markings. It is a little hard to tell from the photos. I agree with Lutece. Your boy will probably grow up to be a tuxedo / black and white. He is adorable either way.

Thank you! I don't know that much about coat colors, I appreciate your response!
