The girls love this food and I have it on my amazon subscribe and save. When reviewing my order for this month I noticed a note next to the food. "Discontinued by manufacturer". I contacted Nutro via Twitter and they confirmed my fears. :censored: :livid: :eviltongue:

Nutro max canned is currently the bulk of their diet. There was no note about any discontinuation at the beginning of this month when I bought 5 cases. :mad2:

I was in Petsmart the other day and picked up a few cans of Wellness minced chicken and turkey. They gobbled them up. I ordered a case of each with my S&S. Hopefully they continue to eat it. I don't know what the point would be to send them a DM. What wet foods are left now? Those ridiculous "perfect portions"? They won't touch them. I guess I will grab a few cans of Merrick to see if they will eat those. I bought a case of Grammy's Pot Pie recently and they were meh about it.

Life with picky eaters is never easy. :headshake:

I hate what Nutro is doing. It seems their entire line has changed and only thing they will have left are those stupid plastic food trays.

So frustrating
I agree. Those perfect portions are a joke. I am getting the impression that they just want to focus on dogs. Whatever. Someone else will be getting our money. I still have about 4 cases. Hopefully they will continue to eat the Wellness. They used to love the Sheba foods until they came out with the plastic trays. They haven't touched them since. Plenty of those trays both Sheba and Nutro got donated to a shelter because they were rejected.

I'm not impressed if Nutro can't figure out that you need something like the food you bought from them before - ingredients, texture - Actually, I think they are just laughing at you. But the laugh will be on them. If people don't like plastic milk bottles they aren't going to be buying cat food in little plastic trays. Karma, she knows no bounds.

Unfortunately, while the company is realizing their mistake the cats have nothing they like. I'm not sure I'd trust Nutro not to pull this number again even if they try to backtrack. That response was pretty offensive.

And to those with sensitive taste buds, plastic does have taste, it really really does and
it's not nice. It also kinda smells.

I wasn't impressed with their reply either. What's left in their wet food line besides those :censored: perfect portions anyway? The girls won't eat them. Moving on. I have 2 cases of Wellness coming in the next week and still have plenty of the Nutro Max that I got at the beginning of this month.

Oh man, that's really frustrating to hear. Max Cat is Smokey's most favorite food. I'll have to see how much I can afford to stock up on :(.

It’s super annoying. My two used to LOVE the Nutro soft loaf or chunky loaf....and they discontinued all that. Now the max line is going. Those perfect portions are far from perfect. I’m not sure how many cats eat that tiny amount? Mine eat 2.8-3oz per feeding each! I have never bought the perfect portions because we have zero use for that.

I checked with Chewy and they currently have 377 cases of Max Cat. So I'll probably order 10-20 cases so that I have some at hand for half a year and then see where I go from there.

The soft loaf is still available. I've been ordering it monthly from Chewy. I have an order this week and so far, I haven't received an email that its been discontinued.

ETA: Crap just looked at my order and it says out of stock. Ugh. So upset they probably discontinued it as well. Sigh...

The girls used to love the Nutro Natural Choice varieties and then when they started discontinuing those, we switched to the Nutro Max. Now this. It just seems like they want to get away from wet cat food altogether. They are certainly acting like it.

back when Friskies went from 6 oz can, which divided nicely among four cats two cans a day, I called and complained. It's not within human eyeballing skills to divide 5.5 oz four ways. The lady was polite but she said I should be giving each cat a whole can twice a day. The guys weren't feather weights, coming in at 10-15 lbs. I got coupons since I called her (just saying, did Nutro give you coupons?)

Since one perfect portion is too little, and it is, I believe this is a set up to make you buy two perfect portions for each cat's every meal, which is too much and an unbelievable waste of plastic.

They didn't give me anything. I didn't send the DM though because there's no point. There's not going to be any canned foods left that the girls will eat from their brand.

Our crew loves the Sheba perfect portions, but it's a pain trying to open 3-2 packs (mine each eat 3oz a serving, Emerson a tad more...what cat eats only one little tub?) when you've stumbled out of bed at 5 am to feed the demanding horde...I really wish it was in cans.

I know, those things are so hard to open! I actually find the size just right for our cats' bedtime snack, though I always end up wearing a little of the food because something inevitably spatters on me when I peel back that impossible foil.

I got a response back from their email support:

Thank you for contacting us.

We’re glad that your cat, Smokey, enjoyed the NUTRO® MAX™ canned cat food and I am very sorry to disappoint you, but unfortunately this product has been discontinued. We base these decision on factors such as consumer feedback, national sales, and ingredient availability. Still, I will be documenting your disappointment.

Please note that we have not discontinued our NUTRO® MAX™ dry cat food. If you are having trouble finding this product locally, you might try online retailers like Amazon, Chewy, or Petco.com

I hope this is helpful. We'd love for you to help us get better by taking a 5 question survey at The Mars Petcare Consumer Engagement Team would love your feedback!.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please do not hesitate to let us know. I wish you and Smokey the very best!

Nutro Max's discontinuation upset me as well. As of this writing, you can still order it from Amazon, Petsmart, Chewy, etc. for the time being, thankfully.

This practice seems to happen to every pet company's line of food every 1-2 years. Purina quietly changed the formula last year (by reducing the amount of broth while increasing amount of water) and made me freak out wondering why my Leia wouldn't eat her food.

I've since learned to introduce foods from multiple brands, and to check/memorize labels each time I buy it, so that it doesn't become dire straits when situations like this happen. Below is a list of what I've been giving her which is similar to Nutro Max (and she loves chunky, cubed food with gravy which is why Nutro Max was a hit).

Sheba Perfect Portions Cuts in Gravy: based on my research, Sheba is actually a good supermarket cat food compared to the likes of Friskies. As previous posts mentioned, the serving is a bit smaller and annoying to open. I find "Cuts in Gravy" to be a smidge less commonly sold than the Pate. Each cut is about half the size of a Nutro Max cube. Sheba is owned by the same company as Nutro, Mars Petcare, so it wouldn't surprise me if they sourced the same ingredients and used the same recipes. Leia loves this stuff.

Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Delights: make sure it specifically says Wild Delights. If it doesn't say Wild Delights, it contains carrageenan (a known carcinogen). It comes in two cuts -- Meaty Morsels and Minced. The Meaty Morsels cut is the closest thing I've found that looks and smells like Nutro Max. Leia enjoys this a lot.

Wellness Morsels Cubes in Rich Gravy: this is what I transitioned Leia to after the Purina incident. She liked it at first but got bored of it after a while, which is how I found Nutro Max. However, we still give this to her from time-to-time and she'll eat it.

I and Love and You Stew for Cats: Leia doesn't care for this but that doesn't mean your cat won't. I've never seen this brand at any pet store but stumbled on it at a local chain grocer (Big Y in the northeast). You can also order it from Amazon, too.

If im NOT mistaken..Chewy .com still sells the Nutro Max Wet N DRY Food...Now a question for u...Is the Nutro Max wet food ...in small pieces of meat in gravy like the Nutro Perfect Portions...Cuts in Gravy????Are they close to being the same texture????
