I really really really am at my wits end with this feeding tragedy. I cannot afford $50 a week to feed these cats, no matter how much I love them. I don't know anyone else who spends that much on multiple cats. They lick the gravy off the food, leaving the dry meat and then yowl for more food. Please, help me on this situation. How can I make this food go longer? It's a tragedy with these cats and I'm very distraught over this crisis. Most of you follow me and know the horrible situation with my Mother so yea, it's no longer feasible to run to store every day. Please give me guidance here. Thank you.

Can you try a little bit first, like mincing the meat with the gravy so that it's all gravy like and smooth? This way if it is gravy like without pieces of meat and probable your kitty may slurp it all up?

Maybe others have better ways than my suggestion. Please wait awhile for further replies.

Sorry I didn't read all the way through. Editing now. My Mom won't let me use any of her kitchen gadgets. In fact she absolutely refuses to even let me cook for us in the house. Is there something I can use to mince the meat with that costs about a dollar? She inspects all packages I get sent to the home.

But how do you mince? She won't let me use any of her kitchen gadgets.

Will they eat pate? It’s the most cost effective food since it’s so dense and Olive seems to prefer it.

Also, how long do you let them cry for more food before you remove it or add more? Sometimes Olive will get some food and either only eat half of it or kick off all the broth and leave the shreds - I don’t give her more. She eventually realizes this is dinner and she always comes back and finishes it. Have you held off until the next feeding to see if they return and finish their meat?

Have you explained to them that they are not obligate gravy-vores? ;)

Well at the moment they have to wait and cry for an hour because the store doesn't open for an hour. Mom is timing my outings (what a way to live) and I have to get her some cream so I'm doing this at aldi. They don't care much for the pate and the shreds they let sit and the meat dries out. Ugh this is a tragedy.

Find the pates that are fairly soft or have a lot of liquid in the can. Get an immersion blender (also called a hand blender) and blend them into "gravy". Immersion blenders are available at Walmart or just about any outlet that sells kitchen items. They start at about $15 on Amazon. In fact, the one I have was $16.99.

Now, before you reply with "I can't do this..." or "I can't buy that ...", I'm only trying to help you with the easiest and fastest possible solution to your problem. Mashing everything with a fork may work, but it doesn't produce the resultant "gravy" that using an immersion blender does. And the immersion blender does an entire can of pate in seconds.

ps. None of my business really but since you make a point to bring it up ... maybe it's time to have a talk with mom. Sometimes what seems impossible is, in fact, possible. Then again, if you truly have absolutely zero leverage in the situation, then nevermind.

Best of luck. I truly mean that.

I can get the immersion blender. That's no problem at all. In fact I just got a $25 Amazon gift card that I can use for that. Thanks. :)

I have the same problem with my boys.

We use grapefruit spoon to shred and chop up the cat food and mix it with the gravy.

It looks like a standard spoon, but the edges are serrated. Probably cost a dollar for the spoon.

I simply rub it against the food and the side of the can and it shreds the food and mixes it with the gravy. That way the cats cant just lick off the gravy and leave the rest.

Shaman is the only problem child there is. I think the issue is she has gum problems but since I still can't touch her a trip to the vet is out. The others will eat what I give them. Bt if Shaman don't eat, Treasure doesn't eat, until Shaman is off napping in front of the garage and then she'll come back to eat the bowl. Til then they both sit outside yowling from sun up to sun set and I have no idea what to do. Neighbors are calling and complaining about the noise. And they've all been fixed so I'm at a loss.

It would.b good if u could use Chewy.com...or...other online stores that deliver...cat food...And chewy has alot of selections..and u wouldn't have to run to store so much for cat food..

Oh sorry. I thought you read my thread in the stray/feral cat forum about Mom's fits. And at the moment I don't have the money to live on my own so I'm kind of stuck with her tantrums.

Try Weruva BFF? A lot of their foods are basically just liquid and my cats really like them! They were gravy lickers for a long time...I totally quit feeding them gravy and meat and went on to Weruva soups and minced foods. See here!

Sadly won’t work because of Mom. Has to be something I personally pick up at the store while doing errands for her because she times me and inspects everything.
