Posted earlier about new orange boy who does a LOT of spraying (he showed up on doorstep already fixed - must have been dumped because of spraying problem) and had him in Pampers. Bought the stud pants from Castle Paws Design that fit MUCH better and use maxi pads (which are much cheaper than disposable diapers) in them. Now he can spray all he wants and we can keep him inside in his forever home!

We'll never turn down pictures of cats! The more the better. That's pretty brilliant. The ultimate win-win situation. He seems to be handling things quite well. Good on you! I don't even want to think about what would happen if I tried that with one of mine. :running:

He looks adorable and is lucky that you worked with him to give him a home. I am quite partial to orange boys.

YES! Now that you have a good solution, keep an eye out here for others with the same problem. You may save a cat's home, or even his life!

This is Obi. He now has a blue and a purple nappy so when one is being washed he has one to wear.

The nappy can be put on so that a cat can pooh through the hole, but Obi sprays so high that we have to make sure he is really covered. He lets us know when he poohs by meowing until we pay attention and then leads us to his changing table! He sprays so much that we have to change his pad at least 4 times a day. We use the ultra thin overnight #5 pad. He only wears it during the day so that he has a break from it all night. He has his own room with lots of comfort!

You are so wonderful to be willing to do so much for this sweetheart who was abandoned. Did the vet have any idea why he spays so much?
Me again @Jcatbird, did you ever have a male you successfully stopped from spraying after he was fixed?

The vet thinks he is just very insecure about his place with our other babies. We have 2 girls and 3 other boys. The interesting thing about his spraying is that he doesn't spray in the room that is just his. He also sprays a lot when we first get him out and then gets less and less as we go through the day. It's still possible that he may adjust enough to not spray, but it may take years. That's okay because as have years to let him adjust!

Obi showed up already fixed so we don't know how old he was when he was fixed. We did have one that started spraying after he was fixed several years ago. At that time we were both working and couldn't deal with that, but we found a good home for him with no other cats.

We also have a Siamese that will spray about once a week in the spring and fall.

I hate to be indelicate, but I have to ask: how does he poop??
Yes - that is my question. i hsve 2 that spray. I had thought of the diapers because some cats at the shelter are incontinent - but what happens to the (large amount) of poop/

I just read the other reply - I am going to the shelter tomorrow and will ask about the diapers. i actually have 2 that could use them. But I I work so I am gone during the day. If I could make this work I could foster kittens again. (I have to keep my male separated in the only place I can keep the kittens)

He also fights one of my other males but that seems to be getting better due to a calming collar.

Our boy now wants to pull out the pad that is in the diapers so I am having to change him more often. Pooh is a problem. The diapers can be put on so that the pooh goes out, but some seems to get on the stud pants anyway. I also got a velcro belt to put around his tummy because he learned how to undo the velcro that hold the pants on! I started out using Pampers and watching a video of where to put the tail whole (don't have the link sorry) but Obi sprayed so often that we have to change him MANY times (even using the Always 10 hrs level 5 pads) and it just wasn't cost effective. You might try Pampers first to see how it works.

I heard they now make (dog) belly bands for cats. Have you looked at any of those to see if they might work better regarding the poop issue?
