My Cat Has An Abscess Under His Tail And Is Acting Weird. I Drained The Puss Out

He's whining and trying to avoid sitting on his tail. hes always twitching a bit. help please im a bit over whelmed

Gently bathe it in warm water to draw the infection out. Do this every couple of hours. It must be sore, do you know how he got it? Are you sure its an abscess, its difficult to be sure from the photo.

i let him outside last week and a cat bit him. im 99% it is its draining puss/blood and has all the indications that is one

Ok. Dont press on the area, let it build on its own and keep applying a clean cloth dipped in warm water to bring the pus to the surface.

My vet says that as long as you can keep it draining, antibiotics aren't strictly necessary. BUT, antibiotics will definitely shorten the amount of time you have to keep draining it. So, if you don't want to be messing around with his booty for a week or 2, a vet visit would definitely save you time and trouble.

Peroxide isn't recommended for open wounds. But saline water would be good. Use 1/2 tsp of salt per cup of water.

I'd see a vet. If it were just an abcess, I might consider simply using warm compresses to keep it draining, although they can recur if not fully drained...however, this was the result of a bite by another cat, and we know how those can be.
