I contacted Rawz recently to find out why my local indy store's distributor didn't have the duck & liver pate available at the store. I've been using the turkey pate intermittently but I wanted to try the duck. Also, note the new online retailer with free shipping.

This is the response I received from Rawz:

"Fauna does carry the duck & duck liver in our new 3oz cans. Your pet shop can certainly order that for you. You can also purchase it from other online retailers that have free shipping over a certain amount. We have added Incredible Pets to our authorized retailer and they have free shipping over $50."

I emailed back to confirm if the turkey liver pate will also be available in 3 oz cans (and any other recipes, if anyone else is interested).

When I hear back, I'll update this thread.

I've been getting my cats to eat more of the Rawz turkey pate, even though they aren't thrilled with the texture so I have to add a bit more toppers to the food, but I like their ingredients and hope to use more of it.

Oh nice! Lydia will eat the turkey by hates leftovers. 3oz would be great!
I checked with my local Indy retailer and they've already ordered a case of the turkey liver pate in the new 3 oz cans. The Rawz rep confirmed that all pate recipes are now available in 3 oz. I'm thrilled as usually leftovers from the 5 oz cans, despite watering it down with warm water, doesn't usually get eaten and just ends up in the garbage.

Hello L lisamarie12 - are the Rawz pates (duck, turkey) a firm pate or a softer pate? (Firm pate is what I am hoping for, before I know I can try it on my cat)
Thanks- :) :D

The turkey and duck pates are not that firm, although both looked at bit firmer than what I've purchased in the past (turkey). My cats also seem to prefer more of a meat loaf texture, however, this is actually working out better than the experience I've had with Rawz in the past.

I like that they don't use any gums, which would likely bind the food more, so I'm willing to do what I can for the cats to eat the food. So far it's just the turkey pate that I have to add a bit of toppers, but not the duck, no toppers needed, both cats really like it.

I'm going to feed them in a while, I'll post a photo of what the duck pate looks like so you can see.

You can also contact Rawz and ask them to send you a sample(s), that way you can try it before committing to purchasing the food

The duck pate is a hit with Krista too. She would clean duck plates like none other. But too much of the duck pate was giving her hairballs and the occasional loose poop. So I tried to get her to like the rabbit which she was only "meh" about but didn't cause the same problems. I decided to compare the recipes because she didn't have these problems when I was feeding her homemade raw duck. And there it is! The missing secret sauce, at least for Krista, that will get her to eat the rabbit or turkey as readily as the duck. The duck has salmon oil added. Since Krista eats more than 5.5 oz a day, a diet of only duck is too much added oil for her. When I added a daily dose of oil to one can of rabbit and then mixed it with another can that did not have oil added so that she got no more than her daily dose, then we didn't have hairballs or loose poop problems.

Long story short: If your cats love the duck but they are "meh" on other flavors, try adding salmon oil to the other flavors.

I also find that because Rawz doesn't use gums or thickeners (except fenugreek seeds which they say are a natural binder and gum replacement), there can be a fair amount of variability in texture from one can to the next. Since everything in the can should go into the cat, I always stir the can very well before serving from it. That should fix the texture differences from one can to the next. And every portion gets weighed into a baggie and then warmed to "mouse temperature" (about lukewarm like a fresh kill) submerged in a hot water bath. This takes only a few seconds after filling a small bowl or container with hot sink water and pressing the portion flat in the bag a few times under the water. Since first portion to last portion, they all get the warm prey treatment, she doesn't balk at leftovers like she used to.

This is the duck pate. :)
Did you add water to that food or is that right out of the can? I don't remember any of the Rawz that I've fed looking that moist. (I think the cats would like it more that way. And it's great food so I wish they'd eat it more enthusiastically!)

It was moisture straight from the can. All four of the 3 oz samples Rawz sent had a lot of moisture, but as daftcat75 mentioned, Rawz textures tend to vary with different batches. My cats lapped it all up. :D

That's good info, thanks! :)

Thank you for sharing this information. My daughter went by our local independent store today to see if I could order Rawz cans from them, and my daughter came back with pricing info. She had 3 oz case of 18 on the note, and I thought maybe the person at the store was looking at the wrong product by accident, since I thought Rawz only had the 5.5 oz cans. Thanks to reading this, I feel confident that the info I have is correct, which will actually work out great for me right now! I did a trial on the chicken and the duck flavors a while back (had to drive 45 min one way to get them), but I did not buy enough to actually get to the point where any of my cats were eating a full meal of it. Having the smaller cans is better because I have to do very slow trials, and even with 3 cats, I worry that a 5.5 oz can might go bad before I get through it. I have one cat who has had watery diarrhea on one bite of a food, but he did well on up to 1/4 of a meal being Rawz chicken, so I was hopeful that he could eat the food. I also have a cat who is having some constipation since another food they like changed their formula slightly (perhaps a change in the percentage of agar agar or fat). He also seemed to be doing well on the Rawz during the trial.

Oh, with regard to the comments on the duck, my cat with suspected IBD or IBS had loose stool on the duck after I increased the amount to about 1/4 of his meal. The store where I bought that did not carry the turkey, and I also thought the chicken and herring flavor might be nice for a treat.

Anyway, I love this site. Everyone is so helpful. Thank you for taking the time to share!!!

:purr: Also, my cats loved the flavor of the Rawz pates. One pop of the can and they were jumping from joy, even when I tried it after they had already had half of their normal canned food. :happycat:

I also asked on the Rawz Facebook site to verify that their pate cans also use human-grade ingredients. Their website was fairly clear that the dry food is freeze-dried from raw and human grade, but I was not sure on the cans. They were super prompt at responding to my message and verified that the canned pate is also human grade ingredients. I appreciated their prompt customer service very much!

One of my cats also had a bit of loose stools eating the duck pate, however, my other cat who is prone to constipation, the duck pate works very well for him.
I've fed Molly other brands of duck (Instinct and also commercial raw duck) so she can handle duck as a fattier meat but Rawz duck pate is a bit much for her, maybe no more than 1.5 oz. a day.
I hope the new 3 oz cans work out for you as well. :)

The Rawz Duck pate has added salmon oil in the recipe. That could be the difference between Rawz Duck and other brand duck.

That's a very good point I hadn't considered, indeed, the salmon oil could be a factor - thank you! :)
