My kitty loves the Wholehearted flaked chicken in broth canned food and I'm considering trying the dry food too. What has been your experience with this brand of food whether good or bad?

I tried the wet food, bought a few cans at petco. Cats liked it. I ordered a case, of two flavors, they would not eat it. :headscratch:
I did not try the dry, as its a bit high in carbs for my guys.... and i have one that does not do well with peas.

Everyone here loves the wet so it's part of our rotation but I haven't tried the dry food. I wanted something a litter higher in protein.

I'll keep searching for something a little better. I wanted to try Fromm dry food which runs about the same price, but there is only one store in town that carries it, Chewy stopped carrying it when they sold out to Petsmart, and I'm afraid of going with something so sparse. I have a Petco nearby so I was looking at the brands they carry and the wet food is a reasonable price with not many fillers that I'll add into the wet rotation.

I haven't tried the canned, but both of my cats love the Wholehearted dry duck food.

The dry food has chickpeas, peas, and pea flour in its first 5 ingredients. That's too much carbs in my opinion.

In the same price bracket with a bit better ingredients would be the American Journey dry food. Only available on Chewy though.

I don't feed much dry food these days (1 to 2 Tbsp a day) so I feed Wysong Epigen 90. Dr. Elsey's is also really highly rated and Petco and Chewy both carry it now.

American Journey has chicken meal and fish meal though. I try to stick with only duck and especially no fish.

My cats are ABOUT the Whole Hearted wet broth treat. It’s the only thing I’ve found that lets me hide my one cat’s medication in. If he wasn’t so allergic to chicken, I would get him the dry food. I like that it’s top ingredients are actual proteins.

Brief update: I found a brand of Whole Hearted food that has no chicken in it, so we'll see how that goes over. I bought a small bag to try it out.

I don't feed dry but I absolutely agree with you about those carbs being excessive.

My cats normally eat raw but the Great Rabbit Shortage of 2019 has forced me to branch out. Everyone but my picky eater Thirteen loves the flaked chicken. I've been meaning to ask if anyone else was feeding Wholehearted. Keep in mind that they also have a limited ingredient formula too.

Yep, the limited ingredient duck is the one that I feed my cats.

My cats liked it enough but like mizzely mizzely said, there's a lot of pea ingredients listed. In the few cans that I've bought, a can for cats (pate) and a can for dogs (pate) both had this pinkish color in the middle of the otherwise lighter brown pate. Not a huge fan of that.

I work for petco and I have to say. Whole hearted is such a money grab. The kibble anyway. The wet is ok. But the dry is nothing but legumes and a tiny bit of meat. They came out with an lid formula last year, smaller bags, higher price, etc. and when u look at the ingredients the only difference in the regular chicken and lid chicken is peas are replaced with the word “legumes”. Makes 0 sense for that food to cost more. All of the cat and dog lid foods are that way. I usually try to avoid recommending it to customers as I don’t feel it’s a quality product with any good purpose behind it except to get petco more exclusive sales.

The LID dry duck food lists lentils, not legumes, if that makes a difference.
