not much going on here today. :D

i've done some printing. i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, and may make a liter or two of soda. will continue with some planning, too.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

Spent the whole day today on just one thing. Built my last ground feeder. The two others I made out of cedar, which eventually rots or gets rickety from age. This one I built all out of PVC lumber and will last forever. Would have preferred something other than white but that is all I could find. Hard to tell the size from the pic but it is 2 feet by 2 feet, plenty of room for two or three squirrels at a time.

I like your feeder. I wish I could make things like that. I just throw out my peanuts on the deck for the birds and squirrels. Tommy got one last week and killed it. Yesterday he killed a mole and brought it up on the deck for me. He is partly feral and I can't keep him inside all the time.

Thanks. All it takes is the right tools. I do sometimes just toss out corn and stuff on the patio but it does gets messy. Feeders are nice because you can just dump the shells and leftover bits right into the trash.

I like that, too. We have a couple bird feeders around the property and we hang suet during the winter months. But nothing for the squirrels.

It's supposed to be rainy today, so not much will be done outside. Rick did some trimming yesterday, while I cleaned about the house: vacuuming, Swiffering, wiping down the kitchen and bath. And I washed a load of kitty blankies.
  • Breakfast for the kids, then they gave Rick their Fathers' Day cards. He got two, one from The Beast and one from the girls. Emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my coffee. I have to scoop the boxes. Rick stripped the bed down and threw the sheets in the washer.
  • I'll bake the Lemon Sponge Cake cookies this morning, then frost them when they cool. I also have some lemon sugar that I'll sprinkle on. Lemon overkill, but man, they're good.
  • I have four loads of laundry to do
  • Visit with Rick's mom tonight

Mia6 Mia6 You should try those cookies; you won't be sorry. They're really good. They're a big hit, both at home and here at work. I brought some in to share this morning.

We didn't make it to Rick's mom last night. We had an early dinner and I grabbed a quick shower. I decided to take a quick nap before going to visit. That was around 3:00. At 7:00, Rick came back and said he wasn't going to his mom. You see, if I don't go with him, he won't go. He just won't. I never really got up until 10:00 or so, took my meds, went back to bed, and right back to sleep. We'll go up tonight. (I can go for a while on very little sleep; then suddenly, it hits and I'll sleep all day, if I can get away with it.)
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 3.5 miles, and got ready for work. Rick will do the boxes later on today.
  • Must grab a few groceries after work
  • Visit with Rick's mom tonight. I have some cookies for her. She told me that she was hungry for a few chunks of sharp cheese and some baby Swiss, so I went to the cheese maker on Friday and picked up some baby Swiss, a chunk of hot Swiss, and some sharp cheddar. I'll slice some of each and we'll take them tonight. She'll have lemon cookies and cheese.....what a combination!

sounds good to me! I love cheese and I've never had hot Swiss, sounds tasty. I'll have Hannah make the lemon cookies soon. I'm still eating the banana bread she made on Friday. It is so filling.

We made it to visit with Rick's mom last night. She was really happy with the cookies and the cheeses. We always take cookies for her roommate, too, and it turns out that her favorite flavor is lemon. We gave her four nice-sized cookies and she scarfed every one down. Rick's mom worked on the cheese. It's nice to give them foods that they don't normally get to enjoy.

We've given up on grabbing groceries this week. There's plenty of canned cat food, so we're going to bag the shopping.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 4 miles, and got ready for work. Rick will scoop at some point today.
  • I have a planning commission meeting that I must attend after work.
And I really think that's pretty much it for today.

  • My right eye was itching badly from allergies on Monday night and I rubbed it with my hand. I now have a small bruise on my eyelid and it is very sensitive so I'm going to apply a warm compress. It almost feels like a corneal abrasion, which will go away on its own. I'll finally plant my two tomato plants, one Cherry and one Heirloom. Julian, ( my ground hog), better keep his little mitts off or he'll be in trouble.

Mia6 Mia6 , you have groundhogs, too! For years, we had three of them living up at the back end of our property. We have no idea what sex they were, but one was darker than the two lighter ones. The darker one was the Brunette Bombshell and the light ones were the Blondie Boys. They loved apples and peanuts and we always tried to make sure they had fresh water. As long as they stayed up at the rear of our lot, they were fine. But I have a picture of the Brunette Bombshell "sunning" herself on our swing on the back deck....she'd laid there and then sprawl out on her back with her legs up in the air; we said she was giving us bellywaves. After people started building houses behind us, the groundhogs left. We still miss them.

I hope your eye is feeling better.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 2.5 miles, sorted laundry, and got ready for work. Rick and I wanted to grab an extra 15 minutes this morning; the cats had other ideas and we were outvoted. The Beast was even running around. So we dragged our butts out of bed. Then Rick saw what he thought was a bee buzzing around the kitchen. The cats noticed it, too, so we had to get the bee before it stung one of the kids. It got into a ceiling light in the kitchen, we took the light down and Rick killed it.....it was a blasted stink bug, not a bee. So while the light was down, I gave it a good washing and then Rick put it back up. At 5:30 in the morning, we're going after a bee/bug, washing lights, etc. Not how we wanted to spend our time!

Oh, I love ground hogs. They are so sweet looking. I have only seen one in my yard a few years ago and none sense then. He was after some sun flower seeds I put out.

Mia6 Mia6 -- planting marigolds around where you've planted your two tomato plants should help to deter critters (from going after the tomato plants). many/most critters and bugs don't like the smell of marigolds.

today i've cut up some more supplement doses for my cats, and have scooped the litter boxes. i've also made two liters of soda.

this afternoon, i'll wash the dishes. i have some planning to continue with, too.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

Oh, wow, would love to see the pic of the Brunette Bombshell, ha!!! Sunning herself on your swing, soooo sweet! Julian burrowed a home underneath the deck and sleeps from October-February or maybe a bit more.

  • Sat on the deck with the girls for a bit before the rain arrives. I want the pancakes I didn't have yesterday for brekkie.

I'll have to look for the pictures of the Brunette Bombshell. I know I have them somewhere.

  • We're going to visit with a GF who is in hospital. She has a bad lung problem and the only real treatment is a transplant. She texted me yesterday to tell me that she's going into Hospice, that they think she's too far gone, even for a transplant anymore. She went into hospital at the beginning of the month, thinking it would be for a couple days for the lung infection to go away again. Well, she went from that hospital to another hospital for PT. And now this. Her husband was admitted to a local nursing home in the Dementia section. Last year at this time? We were going out to dinner and shopping. Hitting local antique stores. We had to keep a close eye on her husband because of the dementia, but he wasn't that bad at that time. It sucks. Sorry, but it just sucks. I don't even know what to say to her that doesn't sound trite as hell.

I am so very, very sorry, Pam. :alright: Yes, it does suck. You are a good friend and will know what to say. Just being there for her will help and vent here whenever you need.
