What's your favorite timed feeder for wet food?

I'm currently feeding Krista six times a day. All wet. Dry is NOT an option! After a rough start to this year, she's got weight to regain and portions to grow. I'm making progress on both. She may be ready to transition to four a day soon. To ease her into that and to reclaim some time (maybe sleep?) for myself, I'd like to put her 2pm and 2am meals in a feeder so I don't have to wake in the middle of the night, or return home in the middle of the day.

She currently eats off a flat plate. So I'm looking for something with a shallow dish and a wide opening so her whiskers don't brush the sides. I'd also like one that plays a sound or rings a bell so she knows that her meal is ready. Not required, but desirable.

Petsafe 5 compartment feeder. There's a two compartment version that has wider bowls if a narrow opening might be an issue for the whiskers. Catmate is another brand and the opening looks wider.

I'm going through Amazon right now and I think the PetSafe 2 meal or the Cat Mate C20 (2 bowl) are currently my shortlist. Anyone with experience with either?

I have a Petsafe 2 compartment feeder in storage. It's the manual dial one, not the newer digital one. Avoid the manual dial one. It constantly ticks. Loudly, too. The only way to stop the ticking noise when the feeder is not in use is to attempt to pry out the battery while going :livid::angryfire::censored::censored::censored: The dial can only be set in 2 hour increments. The lids hover over the bowls and a cat can easily pry off the lid to get to the food. The entire feeder is lightweight and a cat can push and flip it around in an attempt to get to the food :eek2: Don't ask how I know this.... No idea if the new digital version is any better.

That's good feedback. Definitely don’t want a feeder that ticks. I guess I was looking at the Cat Mate as well and it looks like that one ticks too.

I have the petsafe two compartment. I don’t hear the ticking but I agree it is light weight. When mine were younger I used it more. Now I only use mine when I’m traveling and the pet sitter comes twice a day. The sitter puts the afternoon meal in when she’s here in the morning. The timing is not precise. Mine have never successfully opened it but once it is open they drag the trays around.

My 2 compartment feeder is also old, form 2005 or so. Petsafe may have made design tweaks since then and newer manual dial feeders may not tick.

I agree that the manual dial is not precise :agree: The dial markings are in 2 hours increments but the lids don't open exactly at 2 or 4 or whatever hours later

I've heard that some cats can rotate the tray in the 5 compartment feeder to get to the food. Mine have never done it.

I just picked up the Pet Safe 2 hr and I’m already disappointed by it. I haven’t even taken it home and set it up yet. Why do all these timed feeders look such poor quality? You build it right and I’ll buy it. Anyway. The PetSafe 2 is certainly cheap enough to take one apart and see if I can get TAP Plastics to create a better clamshell.
