Out of curiosity, does anyone use one? I was wary of the adult coloring thing, but only because the complexity of the designs scared me off  For the non-artistically inclined like myself, there are color-by-number apps. I use one called Happy Color, and it's SO relaxing.

My mom has one, I think it's Happy Color actually. Well, she likes it! I'd probably never do anything else ever again if I got involved, lol.

My mom is the one who introduced me to it. We're both obsessed :dizzy:

What is a coloring app? Can you get one on a laptop? I color with magic markers in coloring books.

It an app for a smart phone or tablet, like a game. It's like coloring in a book only you're doing it on the phone or tablet.

Microsoft has some free downloadable coloring apps for computers:

Get Zen: Coloring book for adults - Microsoft Store
Get Coloring Books For Adults And Kids AntiStress Relaxing Artistic Mandalas - Microsoft Store
Get Adult Coloring Book With Multiple Templates & Colors - Microsoft Store
Get Abstract Coloring Book - Microsoft Store

The Apple Store might have some for Macs.

I tried an app for my phone and didn't really care for it. It's not the same as actual coloring with markers or colored pencils :dunno: The app I had was more "color by number" because each section of the image was numbered and you had to choose the corresponding color from the "palette" at the bottom of the screen to fill each each section. Some of the really small areas weren't even possible to fill in with color because fingers and a stylus are too fat to tap that little section even if you zoom in as far as you can :gaah: Other apps may be different and allow one to color any way they want and maybe even choose gradients / shades of color instead of a set palette.

Thank you! I may try it on my tablet but I really enjoy the books.

I enjoy the books, too. My granddaughter used to use a coloring app and when I asked her why, she said she enjoyed it. But the last time I was down, she was back to coloring with markers and pencils in a real book.

My mom really enjoyed coloring books the last few years before she died. I thought one of the coloring apps might work for her, so I researched several options and ended up downloading Pigment (for iPad). It’s free although there are, of course, opportunities to pay for more choices. But even the free portions are extremely sophisticated with some pretty advanced options—too much so for my mom who was in her 90s with age-related dementia. I deleted it because I’m not interested in coloring, but I was impressed with its flexibility and the ability to create some pretty nuanced works.

I use Happy Color also. They've improved it recently, but I still have some problems with it. All too often it just pops me out of the app for no reason, and when it does that immediately after I've selected a partially colored picture to continue with it loses all my progress, which is extremely frustrating.

Also, while I don't object to the ads (hey, it's a free app, after all) they're so close to the color selector that I keep clicking on them accidentally.

What I'd really like would be a color by numbers app that also allowed you to substitute your own color judgment. I haven't seen anything of that sort.
