My Dobby (he's like 5-6) has never eaten any toys before. Actually we've NEVER had a cat who ate stuff like this! Yikes! I'm dealing with a cat with a UTI right now, so this is the last thing I needed!

Well, he must've eaten a small round soft rubber ball toy, bc he threw up (like one of those HUGE liquid pukes) half of it this morning. And then a little bit later he threw up like another bunch of pieces of it, like all chewed up. I figure he's thrown up about 75% of the ball. It was probably a golf ball size, or a little smaller.

I came home tonight and he's puked a few more times-- just bile. While he's acting fine (not hiding, etc.), and he ran over for dinner, he's not eating as much as he usually does. I offered him some treats and he just sniffed them and walked away.

So I figure if he's still throwing up and not eating in the morning, I'll take him in for an xray. Has anyone had a cat eat this type of toy before? Is it dangerous? Will an xray show it?

So sorry you're going through this. What a crazy kitty! If he continues to throw up and not eat, then he will need to go to the vet. The pieces should show up on an x-ray. His tummy may still be upset from all the vomiting today, so that may be why he's not interested in food.

Yes, I agree with what stephanietx stephanietx mentioned. Just want to add, watch his poop and take note if anymore of the remains of the rubber ball that might pass through his system. As long as nothing is lodged in the system and is passed out, it should be safe as he had already puke most of it out except for those that are deep down in the system.

If he feels much discomfort, please bring him to the vet to get him treated before anything gets inflamed.

Please let us know the outcome.

He seems better this morning! He ate a few treats, and I'll see in a bit if he's eating his breakfast like normal. I didn't find any more pukes around from overnight. Hopefully we'll dodge the vet visit. And never buy balls like that again! Thanks all!

Great to hear that he's better today but I would suggest that you still keep an eye on him foe awhile just in case but we hope that nothing is lodged in his system.

Yes, there are some toys that does not have very good and safe manufacturing process and actually not cat safe.

He didn't really eat much breakfast-- just a couple bites. So we made an appointment for 2pm today.

The worst part is the vet wants me to dig through the garbage and find the pieces. Fun times!!

Fine to be checking the garbage........more importantly, you should be checking the contents in the litterbox! Even more "fun"!

I'm sorry he's not back to his normal eating this morning. Glad you're getting him to the vet. Happy hunting in the trash!

UPDATE: Dobby is doing great! I dug through the trash and found all the pieces of ball he threw up. Nothing showed up on his x-ray, and he's back to eating normally. We're keeping ALL rubber ball toys out of the house!

The vet added it to her collection i.e. "Hall of Fame" of things cats and dogs in her practice have eaten. Crazy animals!
