What's a good sunscreen that also doubles as a moisturizer? I'd rather not put on moisturizer first and then a layer of sunscreen. It makes my face feel heavy and greasy during the summer :cringe: What about sunscreen serums that you add to moisturizer? Do those work as well as a regular sunscreen?
Unless it's specifically for mixing into moisturizer, I wouldn't. You don't have to use a moisturizer underneath sunblock if you don't need one.

I use Cerave facial moisturizer with SPF of 30. For nose, ears, back of neck, chest, I just use the sunscreen as a moisturizer.

I use normal moisturizer on the rest of my body. At night, I use normal moisturizer.

I am currently staying with the Cerave product line. Used to use Cetaphil.

Wearing a hat helps a lot. Skin cancer runs in the family so I get treated for basil cells. I had some in my head from that. I had to wear a bandage fron my head to neck. I took some time off work

Aveeno sunscreen seems to be buy one get one 50% off this week everywhere and it's not too pricey. Plus I have coupons that expire soon. I'll get those for now.

We use Badger sunscreen. It’s a mineral sunscreen that uses non nano zinc.

I saw that. How do natural-type sunscreen compare to regular ones?

I read in a magazine that zinc oxide is best because it's not absorbed by the skin. True or not?

I picked up some neutrogena to put on my face/arms on sunny days around here. I have tan skin so don't easily burn at all and we don't get a lot of sun where I live but it's still a concern. My husband is pale and burns pretty easily so I coat him too.

Non nano zinc oxide has bigger particles that cannot be absorbed by the skin thereby making it safer.

So I'm using the Aveeno sunscreen and don't really like it. It leaves a tacky, chalky residue on my skin which drives me nuts :cringe: Are there any sunscreens which don't leave a residue? I'm guessing the residue is the zinc oxide and other stuff to block the sun's rays.

Seeing the dermatologist tomorrow and am sure I will get a sun screen lecture. Because I have dark olive skin I have never sunburned and tend to forget about sunscreen. I do have some SPF50 But I just need to remember to put it on.

Has anyone ever used shea butter? I heard it's a natural sunscreen but only has an SPF of about 6? Or 5... Can't remember. I've never purchased sunscreen in my life so I'm unable to answer your question. Never on purpose... I'm dark skinned (I know, still need it) and my family came from a very hot country. They never used it there so we just don't use it here either.

Shea butter won't protect you from the sun, but it's a great moisturizer.

Oh, well. It's what I use. It's what works for me. I'm not in the sun often anyway and don't have a problem with it's greasiness.
You may not burn (UVB rays) but you do still absorb the aging UVA. Of course, if skin cancer isn't prevalent in your family or in Jamaica and you don't care about aging skin, good for you!

Beauty Advisor here! Have actually been literally sent to many classes and schools on La Roche products! Amongst other courses on skincare and products too, woot woot.

Some things might have already been answered (I admit I just did a quick skim so might have missed)

What is nice about LRP is that it is geared towards sensitive and reactive skin. The sunscreens are very light in texture and on-greasy, primarily in a lotion base (There are levels; lotion and gels has the least amount of oil, then gradually builds to middle ground like creams, which are good for dry skin, then near the tops you have balms that are heavier in oils etc etc) it is a good quality brand and has been popular with customers. A little goes a long way too. Their products are also moisturizing.

Zinc oxide is popular and "trendy" thing but it is initially no better than other options as a whole. Titanium dioxide also does not penetrate the skin. LRP does not have Zinc, nor other brands like Vichy and Biotherm. And sometimes the problem with zinc oxide is some people are allergic to it or irritation - like me, for example. It also is the cause of the "whitening" chalky affect. Nothing against Zinc of course, if it works for someone it works, just something to keep in mind!

The difference between mineral sunscreen is that with mineral sunscreen you don't have to wait 15+ minutes before sun exposure. It is effective immediately.

Shea Butter does not protect from the sun, let alone help with sun related things. Aloe Vera for example, is a better option for things like after sun use.

There are brands of sunscreen that moisturize too, like Hawaiian Tropic, Origins, Paula's Choice, Sun Bum, and so forth, although I wouldn't bother with an existing moisturizer that has sunscreen in it (Especially SPF 15, pretty useless number) since you have to reapply every 2 hours again anyway.

Although I am currently trying to move away into the cruelty free route via no animal testing, I'm currently using Vichy Anti-Shine. Very smooth, none greasy or shiny texture. Comfortable on the skin for sure. Hoping to try Korres soon.

For other sensitive skin options, there is Avene, Jouviance, Live Clean (Natural and budget friendly) Neostrata, Drunk Elephant and Reversa (Prevents free radicals) and so forth.

Clinique and Shiseido are also very popular with my customers.

Anyhoo sunscreen is recommended even if your not outdoors heavily, as it goes through the windows pretty signifcantly and rays still goes through 80% when it is cloudy outside.

Fine, I guess I'll have to invest in some sunscreen...
Isn’t it lovely that this community cares about cats and people? :)

Seriously, if I knew in my teens and 20s what my skin was going to look like many years later as a result of spending too much time in the sun with no sunscreen, I would have slathered the stuff all over myself. It’s not pretty.
