I have been a cat lover for over 25 years. My wife and I never had cats in our homes when we were growing up; our parents had dogs. One day a cat "followed" our daughter home from the bus stop. We caught on pretty quickly that she was feeding him. Our 3 kids wanted to keep the cat. I told them that first we had to see if we could return him to his owner. He had been neutered and declawed. This occurred back in the 1980's so all we could do is post signs around the neighborhood and put an ad in the newspaper. After 2 weeks with no responses, we adopted him. After $200 in vet bills, we had our first cat, Cocoa.

He was an indoor/outdoor cat. Unfortunately, we had to move to a neighborhood with more traffic and he was hit by a car. Since then our cats are 100% indoor cats.

We adopted 3 cats from the local SPCA about a year later (Sadie, Sassy, and PJ). A woman had developed cancer and could no longer care for them and surrendered them. They were a joy and truly became our children as our daughters and son grew up and moved away from home. Unfortunately, they all eventually succumbed to cancer.

I guess our children really enjoyed having cats around the house. All of them have cats in their homes. One of our daughters is currently in Vet School. I am looking forward to free vet care for our kitties. :-)

We now have 4 wonderful cats who allow us to share a home with them.

Here's Lexi, our oldest (12 years old)

Here's Loki (appropriately named after the Norse god of mischief)

And we adopted these 2 together, Bonnie & Clyde

I look forward to exploring this website, learning from all of you and sharing my experiences.

We are so happy to have you! Welcome to the Cat Site. We will love to hear about life with your beautiful cats. Bonnie is something of a rarity because the orange gene is attached to the gender gene and most orange cats are male. So you have a very special cat.

There are lots of excellent articles about cats on the site, and the collective knowledge of members is wonderful. Don't be afraid to ask anything.

I was going to tell you that tabbytom tabbytom would come along in a few minutes, but I see he beat me to it with his extraordinary graphics. His cat January is quite a character, and we love them both.

Thanks for the warm welcome to thecatsite.

DreamerRose, yes, Bonnie is a rarity. The first time any vet tech sees her, they always comment about how unique she is being an orange female.

We know that Bonnie and Clyde came to the Humane Society from the same farm where a woman cares for strays. They are about 10 months apart in age, but they may have the same mother.

Fun furry fact: when we were coming up with names for them, our second choice was Pebbles and Bam-Bam.:)

Welcome to you, Lex, Loki, Bonnie, and, of course, Clyde! Nice to have another NC person in the mix. There are a few of us here. I'm near the coast.

And yes, Tabbytom's graphics leave mine in the DUST!

Hi CatLover49 and Mamanyt1953,

Nice to know there are other cat lovers here in NC. Newton is a small town just south of Hickory (about an hour northwest of Charlotte).

I'm almost on the coast, a tiny wide spot in the road between Morehead City and New Bern.
