Anyone feeding Hound and Gatos?

My cat likes the Hound and Gatos Turkey along with the Stella and Chewys he's been doing well on.

There is a local store selling it for $1.79 per can, not on sales either, for the "standard" meats (ie. The Rabbit is more money) which seems to be too good of a price based on what I've seen online and at a different store. Adding this to the rotation would save me a few pennies as long as the price holds.

May I ask what you are paying per 5.5oz can?

I used to feed the Hound and Gatos Gamebird before Olive realized she doesn’t like turkey  Chewy was selling it for $48.99 ($2.04 per can) so I would buy cases off of petstuff.com for $40.81 ($1.70 per can). I think at one point Chewy was almost $60 per case for some unknown reason.

I like the food a lot, except the Agar-Agar. I try to avoid it but if I find a food we like with that ingredient I make sure the majority of others I feed don’t have it.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find any stores in our area anymore that carry Hound & Gatos. So we have to order H&G by the case from Chewy, or from companies that sell it by the can, which can be pretty pricey -- especially if you don't order enough to qualify for free shipping.

At Only Natural Pet, a can of turkey goes for $3.09 a can, and Rabbit for $6.09. I get e-mails from them pretty often with a coupon code to qualify for free shipping with no minimum, and perk points as we earn them.

Bentley's Pet Stuff doesn't list turkey as an option at the moment, but a can of Rabbit goes for $3.99 a can. You do get a 5% price break if you order at least 12 cans of any combination of canned foods from Bentley's.

So if we had the opportunity to buy cans of Hound and Gatos for only $1.79 a can, we'd certainly jump at the chance!

The Stella and Chewys has agar as well. But it doesn't seem to bother his IBD.
I missed it at Chewy before, not sure why. 42.99 case of 24 so the same price as local. Think I'll pick up a few more cans locally to be sure before I order in bulk.

He also likes a brand called My Little Lion. Actually I think he likes it better than the Hound and Gatos. It has a couple gums and Menadione, which I don't like. It's also listed as a supplemental diet. Not sure why. Maybe because it has no liver? But I'd only be feeding as supplemental anyway. I think it's $1.59 a can.

Just looking for some variety that doesn't upset his stomach and maybe can help pinch a few pennies while still feeding good food. Going from about $20 bucks per month for Kibble to 3+ bucks per day has been a bit painful on the wallet. Glad we only have the one kitty.

Thanks

Yeah, it's a shop we just visited last week. They have good prices on some brands and just about average for others. The Stella and Chewys "canned" is maybe a dime cheaper than our usual store but the Freeze Dried raw in the large bags is about 6 bucks cheaper. Looks like it's hard to beat $1.79 can for the H&G, even if buying online by the case.

Thanks.

I use hound and gatos chicken and rabbit. Seem like decent quality. The cats really enjoy the rabbit.

It’s in my rotation. The game bird isn’t a good pate. It’s dry and thick. So only one cat liked it after I bought it by mistake instead of the chicken (Ugh being dyslexic is hard XD).

I like buying is as it’s 1.48 at my local store.

If it didn't have agar agar, it would be the best food on the market imo within this price range - chicken and beef are decently priced! Of course my bloody cats have expensive taste and they don't like these flavors, but they simply love their rabbit, which is super expensive, it costs more than Rawz which is gums free. I tried to cheat them and bought Paleolithic formula (49$ per case), which contains their favorite rabbit, lamb, pork which they accept, but the majority is beef, and they didn't like beef H&G, and unfortunately they refused to eat it the paleolithic as well.

That's a really good price. I picked up a couple more cans of the Turkey just to make sure he likes it. It's a bit thick but not too bad.

He wouldn't go near Rabbit or Lamb last time I tried canned with those meats. Chicken seems to be a potential issue problem for his tummy. He doesn't get loose stools with Chicken but tends to throw up often. He's doing well with Turkey so I think I'm sticking with that for now. Besides, I can barely afford to feed him the better foods as it is. Pricier meats like Rabbit are out unless we have to go down that road.

Why are the food foods so hard to get!? I spent months looking for anyway to buy Rawz and it was so hard!

Unfortunately they don’t sell to large distributors. I order from Bernalbeast.com which is a local store based in San Francisco and I lucked out they will also ship to Colorado. But it’s very difficult to find.

I actually like Rawz policy of avoiding big retailers, but agree that it creates practical issues. I asked Rawz for free samples and then ordered online from Bernal beast, they are super helpful.

My favorite pet food store in Orlando is a small, independently owned shop called Planet Pet. They carry all of the premium pet foods, including Rawz, Hound & Gatos, Fussie Cat, Fromm, etc. I feel as if I've been paying their mortgage since Hare Today ran out of rabbit and Thirteen went on her hunger strike.

They don't have a website but this is their contact info. I feel certain they would ship anywhere in the US.

Both my cats like the H&G last time I bought it. We did gamebird, turkey and rabbit. The closest store that carries it though is over an hour away, and it’s pricey...so we don’t buy it much unless I’m in the area.

I’m lucky. I’m 16 miles away from the store and they o my charge 1.48 for it. I found the game bird to be tuff and only one cat liked it. My crew isn’t picky. But have you found it a bit harder?

I don’t really remember. They haven’t had it for quite a while. I remember liking the texture of H&G because it’s smoother and less dry from what I remember.
