OH...and make sure that water bowls are placed AWAY from food bowls. Cats instinctively know that if a food source is too close to water, the water may be contaminated. They don't quite make the "but it's in a bowl" leap.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 She pooped about an hour ago, thankfully. I'm pretty sure it's the Purina that constipated her, because she was irregular when I was feeding her that exclusively.
THANK GOODNESS, and thank you for letting me know! I'm going to sleep much better tonight.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Her water bowl is pretty close to her food, about 4 feet away. I've read it should be about 10 but Smo lives in my room mostly and my room is very small. The furthest I could place a water bowl is about 10 feet away, in a spot where we keep a scratcher she uses frequently. Should I try placing the bowl there? I doubt she'd want it next to her litterbox, which is the only other spot I have. The main reason I haven't put a bowl where the scratcher is is that it's right by the doorway, and I don't want her to be deterred from drinking by people coming in or try to bolt out.

You could put a little wall of stacked - say three deep - books between her water bowl and her food bowl. That would make them seem further apart.

As for repeat feeding of the same thing being worth a try -- it can't hurt. Use the other half of the can for the second offering. Don't save what you put out and reheat that. Once it's out, it should be eaten or tossed. Squirrels and birds love cat food.

K Kflowers I just tried serving her a can of Weruva salmon in jus - she didn't even taste it. Looks like the neighborhood ferals are going to be eating good. The layout of my bedroom changed drastically today, so I've been able to place her bowls about 15 feet apart. The difference is kind of amazing, it already looks like she's visiting her water bowl a little more often than usual.

I am still concerned with how little wet food she's eating, though. I've also noticed that her urine clumps have shrunk since I started feeding her timed meals of Tiki Cat kibble, and I can't figure out why that is. I had assumed that the lower urine output was because she was just eating too much dry food, but it's shrunk even though I'm measuring out each portion and timing her meals. The urine output is larger when I feed her Purina kibble (which contains filler/grains), though. I don't know if I should put that back even though she obviously dislikes it.

Also wanted to add that she didn't eat up her usual wet treat and left a quarter of it untouched. She's had a stressful day today, could that be the cause?

Stress can certainly affect appetite! And changing your room around is enough to cause stress in many cats. Give it a day or two for her to adjust.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Yes, she didn't seem to be eating much of anything at all yesterday. I'm happy to report that her appetite seems pretty normal today, and that she seems much more confident and content already. She's realized she can be in the living room and kitchen whenever she feels like it, when she used to be stuck in my bedroom most of the time. She's been following me around and purring a lot this afternoon :)
