Just wondering what brands are you ladies/gents using. The one I purchased seems not to be working. The litter clumps break down and do a mess and it's not very good on ordor I change the poops daily. The litter box I purchased at Walmart. Any recommendations?

A litterbox can be any moisture-proof container you and your cat like. The bigger the better. A lot of people use Rubbermaid/Sterilite (or whatever brand) totes or underbed boxes.

What brand of litter did you get? I like Tidy Cats clumping litter with the black top. Fresh Step is my favorite for non-clumping.

I can't remember the name.... I am work I know the box is purple. I know it's clumping but Tom leaves a lot of tracks on the floor and I have a closed litter box with the little door on it

Of all the litter I have tried, Fresh Step Ultra Unscented has been the best for me. Tracking depends on the cat - a rug underneath the box that can be taken up and shaken out (and washed from time to time) helps.

But, I clean the box out twice a day in order to prevent odor and help with cleaning. Even then, depending on where/how Feeby pees (like on the side of the box, which she does frequently) clumps can fall apart when trying to pick them up. After scooping up the main clump, I use a small, disposable and washable spoon to scoop out debris that is left behind when I try to pick up the clumps.

My Krista is contrarian. A lot of people recommend large boxes with high sides. But Krista does better with a small box with low sides. I think she feels more compelled to be fastidious in a tighter space. The first time I gave her a bigger box after her old electric box (those are awful! do not recommend), it must have felt like the master bath at the Tai Mahal. She walked right in and started peeing without any regard to space or position. With a smaller box, she felt more compelled to squat and pee in a corner. She always pees in the same corner. I use Worlds Best Litter. It’s great for clumping and odor control. So 5-10 minute after she’s peed in her corner, I can tip the box (because it’s a small box without a cover) away from that corner. Only the pee clump remains and I can scoop that easily enough.

I leave labels on things I buy just so I know what to buy again next time. So here are the two boxes Krista uses (one for pee and one for poop or sometimes both for poop which spares the carpet ;) )

Fresh Step with febreze odor shield works fine at my house. This is a clumping litter. I scoop once a day and keep 4 inches of litter in the box.

I'm definitely buying a different one and I liked the carpet idea too to help with the tracking

Thanks so much!!!!!!

I use boxicat and Dr. Elsey's litter because that's what one cat prefers and he will go outside the box if he doesn't like the litter. We have a range of litter boxes- mostly large sweater boxes but some extra large high sided boxes.

I find that breaking clumps is caused by the scoop as well as the litter. I have two scoops. One is a gigantic metal scooper that I'm sure was meant for zookeeping that I ordered from the internet and had no idea how heavy-duty it was and the other is a cheap plastic scooper. I find the plastic scooper breaks up clumps but the metal scooper does not. The litter sifter was also good but ours broke a while ago and I have not replaced it.

I’ve used about every type of litter on the market at one point or another. I’ve settled with everclean. Best litter I’ve ever used and worth every buck.

As far as boxes go, I’ve had potty issues with my older boy before. That’s what landed me at everclean. It maskes odors amazingly which helped him be ok with using an already used box. I also keep all lids and scents off/out of the boxes. He hasn’t had issues since I did all of that. I just use regualr xl litter pans.

Smo uses the XL size litterbox from Frisco that I got off Chewy - it's very reasonably priced and really good quality. Also it's pretty huge. For litter I've been buying Tidy Cats Free & Clean (regular version, unscented), which contains a bit of charcoal. It clumps well but I do get a bit of crumbling because Smo likes to pee in the corners and I have to scrape the clumps off. I remove any crumbles with a reptile substrate scoop by Cold Life, which is less than $5 off Chewy. It looks like a tiny litter scoop but the holes are very small so litter's not getting sifted through.

I dump litter and scrub her box down every 2 weeks to a month, and we've never had any odor issues. I keep her main litterbox in my bedroom and it never smells like a cat bathroom.

I've also read that Dr Elsey's litter clumps extremely well, but that it clumps so well you have to pry off the clumps like they're made of concrete. Some people have also complained that the formula has changed. I'm tempted to give it a try, but Smo's so used to the Tidy Cats that I don't know if it's worth it.

Once they are used to something I'm afraid to change it up. Tonight I'm going to the store to get the litter and give it a try.

YuselinM YuselinM Yeah, I hate changing anything up that my cat's gotten used to too. If you're already using unscented clay litter though, I think it will work out okay since the texture and scent will be similar.
