Good morning everyone...we're the new kids on the block!
Melo & Kiki were 2 year old rescues who adopted us 5 years ago.
Melo (aka CARMelo when he's in trouble!) is my orange tabby boyfriend. He follows me everywhere & chirps constantly for attention - you can hear his motor running from the other side of the house! He's a bit of a bully to his "sister" & we have to monitor their interaction because he will Dominate her till she just gives up & hides.
Kiki (aka Kiara, because she's quite a queen!) is my hubby's calico girlfriend. She's kind of fussy & Very independent but worships the ground hubs walks on! DH is very ill with Parkinson's & has a difficult time giving her the attention she needs so she's been sneaking into my lap occasionally (when Melo's not looking!)
My concern & why I joined this site, is for Melo right now. Last night, out of nowhere, he suddenly started tearing around the house like his butt was on fire & hysterically biting at his back end (hindquarters - mostly on the right). He was totally panic-driven, climbing to the very tops of cupboards only to leap crazily down & run, hell-bent on finding Some way to escape his body!! This has continued all night to the point where he hasn't eaten this morning (which is Unheard-of!) & he finally collapses into exhaustion for 10 minutes at a time only to jump up & start all over. They are inside only cats & his fur is Really thick so I doubt it's a critter chewing on him. I've heard of a nervous condition that affects cats sometimes & wondered if anyone on here could give me direction with this.
I'd hate to take him to the vet unless it's totally recommended as I imagine he'd tear the carrier apart with his fit & I know the wait would make things So much worse.
Sorry so long but Help?!

roxessence, Melo and Kiki, on behalf of The Catsite community, a warm
Welcome-Cats-Animated-welcome-comment-001.gif
to all of you.

So glad that you’ve joined this wonderful site and you are in the right place for all things cat and this site is loaded with tons of rich resources and you’ll find friendly and helpful cats around and many of our cats are very knowledgeable in cat related stuffs.

We really don't know what caused Melo to behave in such a manner. It could mean quite a bit of things due to behavior or health reasons.

If it's either of the two, you can start a new thread and post your questions here in cat-health.4 or cat-behavior.5 where more members frequent and those that have experience in that area may be able to help you answer your questions regarding your kitty.

Do observe him for any further complications and take a video shot of what is happening and send the video to the vet first and see what they make out of it. But it is still best that your cat be seen by a vet for a professional diagnosis and treatment.

Hope it's nothing serious and its just one of his zoomies routines.
