One of my guys has some mild irritation above his eyes (eyebrow area, not ears). He had annual checkup & vaccinations 2 weeks ago. He is on Revolution & it was applied last night (as per normal monthly schedule). Vet has changed to a new product, but we still had 2 doses of Revolution. I actually thought they were on Advantage Multi instead.

He also has a scrape on his leg/hip area from last Friday. Not sure how that happened as we weren't home (no outdoor access). He may have been playing to rough or rubbed against something. I haven't noticed any signs of skin irritation except above his eyes. So this is most likely unrelated.

We only allow our cats outside when we can watch them closely. There are other/neighbor cats that access our yard. They probably DO NOT use flea/mite prevention. So, its possible our cats could be exposed to something in the yard, but no direct contact to those cats.

I have called my vets office, but would like to give the Revolution time to work. We will take him in if he gets worst or if he doesn't improve in a few days.

Thoughts on what may be causing issue?

Could be food allergies, or even something like seasonal allergies - in terms of the area above the eyes. Don't know where you live, but here in Florida Feeby always scratches the area above her eyes this time of year - and, sometimes again in the fall. She can scratch enough at times to actually cause scabbing.

If you can't see any fleas on your cat, then allergies might be the issue.

For both areas, you can try using a chamomile tea bag (grocery store type, German, NOT English, and no additives). Just brew it, cool the liquid, and dab it on the irritated areas (including the leg scrape) with a cotton ball 2-3 times a day.
The tea has both soothing and healing properties.

This is the best I could do. This side is a bit puffy. Guess I know how I'll be spending my Saturday morning. No appointments as its first come, first seen. Its a 45 minute drive there & my vet is off.

Hate to see you have to wait at the vet's like that on top of the lengthy drive to/from, but it does look like the vet needs to take a look. The spots Feeby gets are much smaller than that, but it does have some similarities.

Good luck and let us know how things go!!

Snowball's is related to the herpes virus - I am not sure a biopsy will tell you anything more. What you need to ask is what some other med might work better, or if Snowball just needs to be put on a maintenance dose every so often. Can't hurt to ask!

Snowball never was tested n confirmed that it was herpes virus. The vet is going by clinical signs. Is that what it looks like to u.??

Sorry to hear you haven't found a solution for Snowball. I'd like to give the Revolution time to work as I'm afraid I'll waste time & money only to be told wait & see or not sure try this and come back if it doesn't help. That tends to get expensive.

It could be weather/seasonal allergies as we're also in the southeast. No new foods, but I guess he could have developed a sensitivity. I hope not as my other guy has had stomach issues & is finally doing well.

Hope Feeby & Snowball feel better soon.

Oh, I thought he was tested. Have him tested and see what the results are. If Snowball has been vaccinated for it, the tests could come back positive but I think there are parameters that the vet can use related to previous vaccinations vs. actual herpes. Ask the vet about that. If that is possible, at least that way you would know one way or the other.

Perhaps, the vet can also do a skin scraping (a little less drastic than a biopsy) to see what comes of that.

Hopefully, the vet can give you some insight. Even if they treat it now and it goes away, and doesn't come back, it could very likely be seasonal. Feeby is just now getting over her little scabs over her eyes. This happens with her, and she may not have another bout until next spring - or possibly this fall, depending on how the weather is. Hope the same is true for your guy (did I miss his name?)!

Yes he was vaccinated for every thing a cat can get.Yea I remember the vet telling me it probably would come back positive.Being snowball had been vaccinated for it.And I ask them at vet office on phone earlier about a skin scraping n they said more in lines of biopsy.I dont know why.I just wanna help my baby.Thats all.

Update on Pumpkin after vet appointment. The scape on leg/hip area is a hot spot from possible insect bit or some other allergen. Eyebrow area also appears to be allergy related. Seasonal maybe. Not ear mites or fleas. He got 2 injections - Convenia (antibiotic) & a steriod. Expects improvment by Monday.

I was there a little before 8 (doors still locked) & looked like 8 or 10 ahead of us. Fortunately many only needed vaccinations, nails trimmed or such. We were back in the car around 9 to drive home.

You might want to consider finding a vet that specializes in dermatology and have Snowball looked by them.

Yeah sometimes its a good idea to get another opinion. We had to see the other vet this morning. Feels like I have to ask more questions as she doesn't really explain things. No discussion, just doing this & this to resolve skin issue. No options like would you prefer antibiotic meds or shot. Why one is better or has less side effects. Nothing like that. Its rare we see her & todays appointment reinforced why.

Not thrilled with what I've found on Convenia staying in their system weeks afterward. I'd prefer trying to treat at home next time or at least until we can get an appt with our vet.

Well, Pumpkin has started itching again. He has scratched a bare spot between his shoulder blades. I did notice him scratched a little either last night right before bed or this morning. But he was fine when he was visiting with me last night. Likes to get petted after supper most nights. I've been keeping an eye on his spots to make sure they're better.

Can't believe how quickly he did this! I'll call the vet office in the morning, but doubt they can see him until Saturday. I'll definitely get some chamomile tea to try as well. I'm pretty upset having to deal with this again. It will be my luck that the other will be in again on Saturday. I wasn't thrill with the previous treatment. Can't image we will be given a better solution this time.
