I just received a case of food from Amazon. The case was ripped open and three of the cans are dented. I won't feed the cats the dented cans and was going to throw them out. I was just wondering if it would be worth the trouble to contact Amazon? I've never returned an item to them before, but it's kind if annoying paying for a case and not getting all the food I paid for. Has anyone done this? Is it a hassle to return items to Amazon?

EDIT: FYI for anyone in the same situation - I decided to do a return and Amazon is replacing the food free of charge AND I don't have to return the original case! Pretty cool and it was NO hassle at all. Thanks Amazon.:)

Amazon is usually really good about refunds and replacements. Glad it worked out.

Yes I always contact for food I can't feed! Both Amazon and Chewy will either refund for the dented cans or send replacement cases depending on the situation.

One one occassion amazon replaced an entire case of cat food because several cans were dented.

But on another occassion we actually had cans missing from a shipment and they didnt even respond when we notified them. Buyer beware.

We have returned to buying the food locally as it is actually now cheaper to, do so. And we dont keep dented cans.

That happened to one of my co-workers, only it was Chewy. They were great about replacing the entire case of food and he didn't have to send it back. I'm glad that Amazon replaced your food, too.

Every time I order cans from Amazon, they always come dented. Your replacement will more than likely come dented too. :( I find that Petco is the best for delivering non-dented cans.

I've not had much trouble with dented cans from Amazon, and I order a lot of canned food from them. They've also been extremely responsive and helpful in replacing any item that was damaged in transit or even (in a few cases) stolen from my porch. Perhaps there are regional differences in the Amazon distribution system.

Every time i order any case of 24 big cans some of them are dented, some of them more than another, whether from amazon, chewy, Bernal beast, only natural pets. I eventually assumed it’s unavoidable as the cases are so big and cans so thin. Are you asking for replacements even for slightly dented cans or only those really really dented? Does any one knows what is the danger connected to the dented cans?

I still used the dented cans from Amazon and my cats didn't get sick.

I always use dented cans unless they're popped open, but I know some people aren't comfortable with that.

My FedEx guy (or the local sorting station?) is a bit rough so a lot of my Chewy cans come dented, but not usually too badly because of the cardboard covers they use. Amazon stuff usually comes UPS so it's usually not as banged up, but they don't use the cardboard covers so the actual damage is probably about equal.

It's always good to contact the vendor if your shipment arrives damaged. With Amazon though it's always best to avoid third party vendors whenever possible, and even if you can't then make sure to only order from the ones that specify the orders are fulfilled by Amazon. Otherwise you're probably SOL if there's a problem, if it's a third party vendor that handles the shipments themselves then there really isn't much of anything that can be done about it.

For me, it depends on the location and severity of the dent. If it's near the lid or of course if there's any sign of leakage, I won't use it. If it's a slight dent in the side though (away from the top or bottom edge) then we will use it. We do the same for our people food cans too.
