I'm slightly worried that my two year old boy Aico is becoming a bit overweight.

This is a recent picture of him:

He is fed twice a day a cup of grain free dry food and he gets canned/wet food or tuna twice a week as a treat. Is there anything I should change?

He is very active and gets plenty of playtime and is harness and leash trained, so he goes on walks around the neighborhood and also enjoys harness free supervised playtime in my back yard while I'm out working in my flower garden.

I was just wondering is there anything I should be doing differently?

Hi and welcome! Aico is gorgeous!! If you are worried about the weight there are a few options. Increasing wet food and decreasing dry (as budget allows) is one way. We have a girl, Olive, that chunks out on even the healthiest dry food and wet food is ideal for her.

Another option is switching to a kibble with more meat-based protein and less carbs. Depending on the kibble you feed, there might be healthier options. We had another boy, Trin, who we were free feeding and he ballooned to 18 lbs of Tabby on corn-based Purina Cat Chow. We switched to Natural Balance Green Pea and Chicken and he naturally became more active and lost the extra pounds. Until recently we were feeding Dr Elsy’s Clean protein chicken which is very low carb and all protein is meat based.

That helps us anyways.

Thank you all for the advice. It seems I'll be transitioning to wet food being his main diet. To clarify, I'm not feeding him a full cup of dry food twice a day, I use a smaller cup that's probably half a cup in measurement. I should have said that in my first post. It still doesn't change the fact that I need to switch up his diet before he packs on more weight.
