I was watching Home Alone this afternoon, and it made me think about how much I love some movies' instrumental music (original scores) that plays in the background.

I love the music that plays in Home Alone when Kevin is getting his house ready for the burglars. (John Williams - Setting the trap)
I also love the instrumental music in How to Train Your Dragon when he flies on Toothless for the first time as well as in the scene where Hiccup and Astrid go flying together. (John Powell - Test Drive and Romantic Flight) But I also like most of the original scores by J. Powell in that movie as well.
The music in the Transformer movies is another (original scores by Steve Jablonsky - basically all of them :)) as well as the music at the end of the movie The Island (Hans Zimmer - My name is Lincoln).

I know there are so many more that just make my heart feel good, but those are a few of my faves. How about you???

I like most of it, but I particularly enjoy The Journey in the Dark, especially the part where they walk into the great hall and the music swells to show the lost majesty of the architecture.

I also love the melancholy of the reedy instrument for Rohan. I loved how each kingdom and character had a distinct sound and theme without being too literal or obvious.

I just watched the tribute to Ken Burns The Civil War last night, and the theme music is just so beautiful. It's "Ashokan Farewell," and it may not have been written just for the series, but everyone associates the music with it. It was written for a music camp and always played at the end. It certainly evokes the sweet sadness of the Civil War.

My husband loves musical scores! The entire soundtrack for Lord of the Rings is beautiful. When we play the board game War of the Rings, we listen to it. Our favorite is "Ride of the Rohirrim."

My favorite "made for movie" song is "Time Machine" from "Safety Not Guaranteed." I may be biased because it was the song we walked down the aisle together at our wedding.

I love soundtracks and have way too many favorites to list. ;) Thomas Newman’s scores are all really beautiful, especially Road to Perdition and White Oleander. James Newton Howard’s The Village soundtrack, which features Hilary Hahn as solo violinist, is just stunningly gorgeous. The Vote and The Gravel Road are the best tracks.

The soundtrack from the original Star Wars movie (Episode 4, "A New Hope"). I remember watching the movie on the big screen when it first came out and the score running through my head all the way home.

I love Ken Burns. I will have to watch that next time it comes on TV. I believe he has a new one coming out.

It's been many years since I heard it, but I used to listen to the soundtrack from "Local Hero". If I remember correctly, one of the composers was Mark Knopfler of Dire Straights fame.

Just thought of another one, love or hate the movie, "Bella's Lullaby" in the Twilight movie (the first one) is a beautiful piano piece.
And this is not a movie but I gotta send a shout out to Riverdance, love the music and the production...absolutely moving.
And you may all laugh at me but the music in the "Sad Lamp" commercial from Ikea, really does help make you feel sad for the little lamp. I remember when it first came out, and I really did get upset over the lamp being tossed aside.

Jazz composer Dave Grusin’s “On Golden Pond” is, to me, one of the most peaceful, loveliest pieces. I play it when I’m stressed or troubled. I close my eyes and imagine I’m sitting on the shore of a lake by myself with the sun filtering through the trees and the birds calling.
