We just moved and one of my male cats has crystals and litter box issues. Vet has him on Valium and science diet food (the is the second one he has tried) he’s not a fan of the food (we only feed wet food)

So far we have been lucky no blockages. Yesterday he had lots of blood in his urine, haven’t seen much today as he’s sleeping.

Anyone have any positive outcomes from diet changes? Do you feed the maintenance diet after? Other than stress the only thing changed is we went from bottled water to city water (cats are back on bottled now)

Hi!
Some members have had good results from diet changes - hopefully one of them will see your post soon.

In the meantime, can you also use music for him? There's MusicForCats . com, and also there's an app called Relax My Cat that may help him :)

Feeby has had issues with crystals/stones, and has since been on Hill's C/D and Royal Canin SO - both have canned food as well as dry. She has been stone free since she started these foods 10 years ago when she had to have bladder surgery.

There is also Purina Pro Urinary Care food - both in canned and dry. I also heard about Wysong Uretic, but I am not sure that is comes in canned.

She was not diagnosed with cystitis, but if your guy is on Valium it might not be a food issue so much as a stress issue. The move might have created enough stress to cause the cystitis, so with any luck as he adapts the stress should lessen.

Maybe some tips in this TCS article that might spark some ideas for you to help minimize stress?

My Charlie just got through a bad infection and Crystals caused by stress.

There are a few things I did and it's gone now.

-UroMAXX was added to his wet food along with Bone Broth (the bone broth was more for his tummy though.)
- and much to my dismay, as I feel the food is crap, a small handful of dry food daily: "Royal Canin Multifunction Urinary + Hydrolyzed Protein" I believe the food is helping, along with the UroMAXX. I hate to admit it that. Charlie is on mostly wet food as well.

I am going to be keeping him on a small amount of that dry food, probably forever, but the majority of the diet will still be his wet food.

Charlie is a wicked picky eater (understatement) and the fact that he will eat that dry food was a mini-miracle.

I hope this helps.

I preach Uromaxx like a preacher, I give .5 ml orally through the side of Olivers mouth onto his tongue twice a day, not down his throat!

I stopped Royal Canin Urinary So on feb 12 so far no problems on just Uromaxx, im down to half a bottle and Oliver likes the flavor somewhat and does not back off giving it to him...
