Hi guys,

I am running out of options. I am not sure what to do anymore with my persian kitty Dora. She’s been to the vet several times, has had antibiotics, steroid cream, steroids orally, and we just spayed her thinking this problem would good away!

Dora constantly has little blisters all over her anus ( almost look like hemroids )

They have gone away and come back then gone away and come back. It always starts off as one big blister right on her anus and she starts over licking and multiple bumps appear. Multiple vets are baffled and have no idea what it is.

I am so exhausted trying to find out how to cure this. Has anyone seen this before or can provide any intel!

Please let me know, thank you.

Can you put a cone on the cat so she can't lick her butt and give the sore area a chance to heal?

I wonder if it's reaction to something in the food? The butt is an odd place for a reaction to occur. Usually a cat just gets itchy skin which turns into sores as the cat keeps scratching.

Or maybe a reaction to the cat litter?

Have you tried an internal medicine vet or a veterinary dermatologist? Has full blood work been done?

posiepurrs posiepurrs have you see anything like this in Persians? No idea if the breed matters for the issue.

that looks very raw, poor little thing. I agree with the poster above to see if the litter is causing it. What litter are you using. When I used scented litter my guy had scabs all over, when I change to unscented they went away

So I went and bought hypoallergenic litter and digestive sensitive food. I am cleaning the area then putting special cream on her bum. I also bought a cone and shes currently in her cage because I just put cream on her and she usually licks it all off. After this I am not sure what else I can do... are cats able to have Hemorrhoids ? Thats what it looks like to me or herpes outbreak? I am not sure what else this could be...

When did you switch litter and food, and have there been further outbreaks since then? How long after switching litter and foods did the outbreaks occur?

Have you noticed any signs of discomfort before an outbreak occurs? (I'm thinking of herpes - in humans, people can feel cold sores coming on. And I am not implying that I think this is herpes, just looking for clues.)

Has the vet taken swabs to have them tested by a lab?

What is the cream that you're using? Have you used it before?

It sounds like OP bought new litter and food yesterday. It'll take about 13 weeks or so to see if the hypoallergenic diet helps, sooner if it's a problem with the litter. What brand of food did you buy?

Try to keep your cat from licking off any cream you apply to the butt. Ingesting medicated creams, etc can't be good. A cone will help prevent licking.

Ask the vet to consult with other vets or a veterinary school for help in diagnosing your cat's issue. Vet schools have courtesy consults.

No I haven't seen this before. Now this is going to sound far fetched but I once had a kitten with what in humans would be something similar diaper rash. The vet told me to use a diaper rash product called Balmex and not allow him to lick it. Now this was more than 10 years ago so not sure if the formula has changed. Maybe ask the vet about trying this? I would also suggest that he /she contact a vet school such as Cornell, UC DAvis or Tufts if he can't diagnose.

Looks like genital warts or a herpes like outbreak of some kind, that poor little girl. I would try some kind of antiviral for herpes, etc, contact your vet about this. It looks very sore!

it almost looks like straining to use the box. How is the consistency of the stools? If you could add a half teaspoon to 1 tsp of canned plain pumpkin to diet daily to aid elimination. There are medications that the vet can prescribe that acts as a seal of the digestive tract if there is reaction to food or ulcers. It's called
Sucralfate is an oral anti-ulcer drug used in dogs and cats to coat ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract to protect them from stomach acid and allow them to heal.

The reason I mention this is my kitty is on this medication for the next 4 days for a gastro issue. I am wondering if this medication may help sooth the digestion track and looking into stool softeners to help heal the hemorrhoids/irritation.

I believed that herpes in cats affects only respiratory track?
Missdora Missdora , in my opinion you need a better vet than the current one, have you tried cats only specialist?
