Hey,

I posted the other day about Kakashi the white kitten who ended up passing. Well his sister Hatake has been the healthiest since they were brought to me on 5/9.
Little info:
Calico
Weight: 4.7oz
Age: 7-8 days
Umbilical cord fell of 5/13
Eating 3.5mL-5mL every 2-4 hours
In a covered container with heating pad and cooler place with a stuff animal for comfort.

She is very active little girl when awake. She eats pretty good latches sometimes other times she bites nipple. I have miracle nipples/syringes coming today in hopes they work better. I feel pet store ones are just to big for her tiny mouth.

My concern is 2 nights ago she started making this noise during eating and after almost like shes trying to clear her throat. Some times she stops mid feed to do it will have mouth open.
I also noticed today her little nose is slightly runny and that is probably the problem for the mouth noise she cant breath very well while nursing.
Anything I can do aside from vet? Tomorrow Ill be starting to make her KMR with pedialyte as I think she is a little constipated as well.

Anything advice about runny nose? what to watch for?
Also should I use pedialyte from now on every feeding until she is weaned off milk or just temporarily for a few days?

Pedialyte doesnt help much for constipation. Even if increasing the total amount of fluids with pedialyte is a good idea.

Give her 2 drops of coldpressed olive oil, or similiar, at each meal.

Thanks, she'll be waking here soon to eat so I'll try it then. I did the triangle message nothing was working to get her to go. Finally after laying her in nest she went but cried small hard nugget.

Could the throat noise be coughing besides a runny noise? Can a little baby take antibiotics? Have you consulted a vet?
It could be coughing as Idk what it is really. I always rub and pet her when she does it then she stops and feds again. Its only during feeding and right after. 5am feeding her nose wasn't so runny and she didnt make as much of the coughing/clearing noise this time. As for a vet, I dont really have the funds to take her. I want to and am reaching out to a few cat rescues see if they have a low cost facility or something to help me out. Couple pictures of her.

Well, I added 6 drops of coconut oil into 6 tablespoons of the batch of KMR I made. She finally went poop more and softer. She cried pretty loud so I dunno if its still hurting her to poop. This batch of KMR is almost done. Is it ok to mix the KMR/Pedialyte and coconut oil at once when I make my batches?

Maybe you can start a PayPal account and ask for donations to help with a vet visit or see if a local rescue will accept donations on Hatake's behalf . From what I understand, it is easier and faster than GoFundMe but allows privacy for all parties without taking a percentage of the donations.
I am beyond thrilled with how well the mini Miracle Nipple has worked for my current foster Baby Bella. I donated one to my vet, to hand out in case another baby in need shows up. Stray kittens tend to be born in the most financially challenged areas.
And I adore Hatake's orange spot on her head - so precious :lovecat::heartshape::loveeyes:

I am glad you are taking her to a hospital but can't you do so right away? At her age kittens are fragile. A running nose and cough is not a good sign.
It was the soonest appointment available. I will call around again tomorrow see if anyone cancelled so we can get in

it is fine to add the coconut oil and the pedialyte to the kmr. if she gets gassy, you can add a few drops of infant simethecone drops to her bottle. have you checked out www.kitten-rescue .com?
One thing to closely monitor is both her skin elasticity and head. That "skull" look is a sign of dehydration so be vigilant for that.
if she starts sneezing a lot, you may have to add antibiotics - although they are useless against viruses, they help her fragile body fight any secondary infections. You will probably need to add probiotics but those need to be spaced apart from the antibiotics. L-lysine might help as well - the vet will advise you on that.

I will definitely keep an eye out for those signs. I am going to look for a vet tomorrow that can see her tomorrow. I have been reading so many kitten sites :)

She refused to take the miracle nipple/syringe
Bummer. I'll keep trying but will also use the other ones.

Is the formula at 100°F? that is a common cause of refusal. it took Bella a few tries before she accepted the nipple but now she is older and a little champ! i kept carefully dribbling the formula a little bit at a time, similar to what she was used to with the eyedropper. I would apply karo to her gums and administer the 50/50 pedialyte via the dropper. then i would "potty" her, try to burp her and let her rest before offering formula. My vet said that dehydration and over-handling are more worrisome than starving in those early days.

But you already have an appoitment for tomorrow at the hospital, right? Very much looking forward to hearing the vet's report. Is the little one still bothered with a running nose and coughing?

So she is taking the nipples now. I notice if the formula is not warm enough she bites at the nipple instead so I rewarm if need be. She drinks anywhere fron 5ml-7ml every 2-3 hours. She's 10-11 days today and weighs 6.3oz. Her little ears are unfolded. Eyes still shut. She has been pooping a more after I switched to KMR/Pedialyte. Not as much as I think she should be but more so thats a plus. Gaining weigh every feeding a plus. She still has a runny nose. The coughing sound she doesnt do it as often or as long as before. It almost sounds like a kitten hissing for first time lol. There is another sound she makes if my hand is near, I tell myself she's trying to purr lol. I think for the most part she is doing amazing for where she came from.
