I Tried Everything Still Excessively Meows At Night?

Hello friends,

I have two cats ,both male. They are not from the same litter but they were together since 4 weeks old. They are now 1 year old, both are stray cats that I found sick and took care of them really good. One of them has no voice at all, just a can of food makes him meows. He is very quite. (both of them are neutured) The other one is also very sweet and calm during the day but he starts meowing around 5 am. Vet check everything (bloodworks etc...) and he is healthy. I tried to ignore him, I play with him before bed time and feed him. I bought him a calming paste. He is not alone during the day, he plays a lot with his brother. Nothing keeps him quite unless one of us wakes up and sit with him. I live in a crowded apartment and I am scarred that neighbours will complain soon. My husband works really long hours and he is frustrated. We love them both very much but we need some advice.
ps. I believe he has PICA too. cause he loves to eat foreign stuff speacially plastic bags, toilet papers etc... (we are hiding everything)
please give me some advice. Thanks in advance

Could you maybe provide an automated feeder that's set to open at about that time? I know it isn't you but it might be enough of a distraction.

Or self entertaining toys? If you don't have carpet a nano robot hexbug might help although it's not literally self entertaining.

Maybe MusicForCats . com on low volume on a timer to come on at that time?

Hi. Is he allowed in your room at night? If not, that might be all that it takes to stop him from meowing. It might not be immediate, so you might have to endure a bit of time with him meowing anyway, but odds are he will eventually stop.

If he is allowed in your room at night, you might add an extra bowl in there before you go to bed and see if that would be enough to stop him - assuming it is food that he is looking for.

Either way, a timed feeder as Furballsmom suggested just might be the answer.

Feeby wants to chew on plastic bags (but, thankfully not toilet tissue), so plastic bags are always stored away so that she can't get to them. It is actually relatively common among cats, and if there is nothing from a health perspective causing it all you can do is hide everything that you can as you are doing. Since your cat wants to eat more than one non-food item, you might want to try buying some safe chewable toys for him. Take a trip to a pet store and see what they offer that is actually safe for a cat to chew on.

I would do the timed feeder too, maybe set it for 4:30 or 4:45 so he won't start in before the food appears.
Do you ignore him for an hour or so or do you get up to feed him to quiet him down. No judgment (I'm guilty, boy am I guilty of that ) if you do get up and feed him, it's an automatic reward for crying at 5 AM. I think the auto feeder would be great, keep him happy and keep your neighbors happy (and let you get a little bit more shut-eye)!
If your house is super quiet in the morning he might just be awake and wondering where everyone is. Leaving a TV or radio (or even a box fan on low for white noise) might help. Some cats really just don't like 100% silence.

My cat Coco meows at night. She is ok once I put her in bed with me. She does not like being alone

Both my girls wake me up at 6am to be fed Sandwich meows at my door to be let in I have to ignore her I hate doing she just wants to be in here with spooky

They both sleep with us in the same room. sometimes in our bed. They are allowed every where except one room which our cockatiel stays. I tried the music thing first night he stopped meows but second day he meowed again. I am not feed them in the mornings. He just wants me to wake up and sit with him

Have you tried holding him if he wakes you up? Since cats generally don’t like being held and I sleep on my side when my cat was you g and would wake me up I would just hold him in my arms for 5 minutes or so. As I started to get sleepy again my arms would loosen so he could wiggle free.

Also I sleep with a loud fan on to drown out my cat’s mischief has he explores/plays through the night.

I don't know, but would an automatic feeder help at all, set to open in the AM just before he typically starts meowing?
