I ALMOST forgot again, but since this is neither horseshoes nor hand grenades, I'm fine.

How would you describe your ideal decorating style? Now, you do NOT have to use the standard "contemporary," "modern," "retro," unless it fits you to a tee. Make up a name that DOES fit you to a tee, for instance,

I'd have to describe my style as medieval modern. LOL, I want it to look as if it could have come from the 14 or 15 hundreds, but I LOVE my mod cons...I want ac, central heat, good lighting, hot water, flush toilets and comfy seating...but I love the general aesthetic. I'm especially fond of the baroque, rococo and Gothic styles...and that's Gothic as in cathedrals, not as in wearing all black.

Let me show you. While this bed in not so much the colors or pattern I would choose, it definitely has the right vibe!

I rather like the Craftsman style- less ornate than Victorian or Art Deco, but more substantial than Modern. Our house, dating to 1903, falls into that category with the deep eaves and simplified trim, while still using plinth blocks and pediments around doors and windows, and multi-piece baseboards.

We have remodeled houses for 40 years, and it is amazing how decorating ideas seem to recycle themselves! I remember stripping paint for years revealing beautiful oak woodwork, covering floors with carpet, now I prefer white trim and doors with grey walls and wood floors! After these last two houses I come home and get depressed with all my oak and carpet. (especially when I see how much dirt and heaven knows what is UNDER the carpet we pull up) My husband just bought a 1930's Dutch Colonial Sears and Roebuck on 9 acres that has to be gutted, HMMMMM.......I could have more cats, and more plants!

My house is a mid century modern with floor to ceiling windows, oak floors and mostly contemporary furnishings. But I have some lovely antiques scattered about so I guess I am what you call eclectic. I do not like to look at clutter so mine probably looks a little barer than the average home (except for cat toys which are everywhere).

I like 18th Century Queen Anne, although my house is a mixture of everything. I grew up in Virginia, which is known for its 400-year-old houses, and that's what I prefer. I love brick covered by ivy.

Mid-century modern mostly. I have several vintage pieces from my parents and an aunt and uncle that were given to me; our bedroom set was my parents original one from 1957 and I have a dinette set and end table from the aunt/uncle. Oh and one piece from my parents living room set (a low bookcase) too - my siblings and I split that up. Newer furniture I've tried to maintain that style but I also have some other things that are sort of craftsman/mission/Asian/country etc. so it's a bit of a mishmash. I tend to prefer seeing things in their natural state - not covered up with heavy fabrics although I do appreciate that look in the right types of settings.

You certainly could! And OH MY! A Sears and Roebuck house! I can remember going to Sears and Roebuck with my dad when I was small, and seeing the pamphlets on the houses that they sold, as well as cars, and ANYTHING to do with farming, up to and including chicks and ducklings! Saddles, bridles, harnesses...they had EVERYTHING!

Our house is a Craftsman-ish bungalow. It does not have all the builtins one would expect with a Craftsman, except for the bookshelves in my bedroom. They may have been removed for all I know.

As for my style, I guess it could be called an Eclectic Handmade Artistic (Almost) Dark Bohemian Cozy Librarian. A lot of my stuff has been repurposed, upcycled, redone, and handmade. I would lean more towards the Gothic Romantic, but I like color too much to go all dark. My bedroom, however, was once called "gloomy" by our handyman! Haha! It is just because the walls are a dark bluish-grey (Paramount by Behr).

We have a lot of Middle Eastern things, Japanese things, Chinese things, oddities, crystals, books, and cushions. And, I paint, so, there are many paintings. We do not get many visitors, but those who do come always say that it is calming.

Grandiose old theatre baroque. I have a vision impairment so I'm not seeing detail. I like the grand dramatic style of old theates because they are larger than life and often textured. I am fond of textures because I can feel them instead of seeing them. We do have window dressing from an old theatre that were donated to a charity but no one wanted. I also have furniture that is upholstered in a very old baroque style and is texturally interesting. I'm pretty happy with our stuff. However our cats also love highly textured items:(
