She ( micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom ) is amazing. I am always in awe of what she does with her freezer.

I slept like a log last night. Got to bed and to sleep around 9. And that was all I remember until 3:45 when Pepe started yelling for breakfast. Then Amber started muttering. Then Molli went after Tabby. Then Molli went after Muffin. I gave up and by 4:30, everybody was chowing down on breakfast....which was probably their intention all along. Brats. All of them. :sleep2: :sleep2:
  • Breakfast for the brats, walked 5 miles this morning (amazing what one can walk when she's up at 4:30!), and got ready for work
  • I have the PC meeting from Hades tonight after work. It's not going to be pleasant and it's going to be long. The cats will not be amused because I'll be home late.
  • Must scoop the boxes
Do you miss your man? :itslove:

thank you, Winchester Winchester !

Wowza, you make all that food for yourself? I am impressed. You really know how to plan ahead, budget. Have you ever thought about running a restaurant?
I'm sure someone would pay you quite well to organize them and then you could do it online. With your skills you would be in demand.

What is pork ragu?
thank you!

i do what i've found works well for me, which has evolved over time into how i do things now.

i actually worked in the food service industry for several years, though as a bookkeeper. my abilities lie in accounting/auditing and organizing, not so much with people -- like employees.

here's the recipe, for those who might be interested -- Braised Pork Ragu Recipe

it's one of my favorite recipes, and it goes well over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta -- i've had it over each of those. i didn't make Braised Pork Ragu last year to 'put up', because i ran out of canned diced/stewed tomatoes. so i knew i'd be making it this year.

today i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, and make two liters of soda. i'll make the Braised Pork Ragu, then freeze what i won't need for the next several days of that as well as the same idea with the mashed potatoes i made yesterday -- they'll be frozen separately. i'll also slice/wrap/label/freeze one pan of the carob blondies i baked yesterday.

this evening, i'll likely watch some tv.

I do, but I'm also glad he's gone. If that makes any sense. It's been a while since he's had to go away for union business. I'm always glad when he goes because I get so much stuff done around the house when he's gone. But then, when it's time for him to come home, I'm always ready for that, too. So I do miss him and I'm ready for him to come home. But it's really nice being on my own, too.

Rick called last night and we chatted for about an hour. He said he's about $500 to the good, BUT expects to pretty much lose it all til it's time to come home. In bed and sound asleep last night by around 9:00. And I stayed asleep until 4:30 when Pepe decided it was time for breakfast. She's my alarm clock; I never set a clock anymore. I don't think I even moved during the night. When I opened my eyes, Mollipop was still wrapped up in my arm and she was still sound asleep.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked four miles and got ready for work (Since there are so few dishes, I only have to run the dishwasher on Express, which takes an hour. So I empty the dishwasher at night when Rick's away.)
  • Must scoop the boxes
  • A quick vacuum about the house

Winchester Winchester : alright, I understand that you only cook/bake in the cool months and freeze everything for the hot summer months. So do you microwave everything in the summer? How about salads, you can't really freeze those, lettuce and tomatoes don't take kindly to that and neither do other veggies with high water content. And just how hot does it get where you are? or is it the humidity which can really do you in? Perhaps if we had an inkling of your location we could understand more of why you do what you do. I lived in Central Texas but I still cooked even in the hot months without A/C, just some fans, and sometimes a swamp cooler. No, I don't live there anymore and I do have A/C now. I live by myself and have a big freezer but that is because I hate shopping and the food in my freezer is mostly meat and veggies from my garden such as corn. I also can a lot like tomato sauce and salsa and fruit I buy at the farmers' market when it is in season.

segelkatt segelkatt Do you mean micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom and how she cooks and bakes for the summer months? She's the one who does that. We have two freezers, so I do cook and bake a lot during the year. And unless it's really, really hot and humid, I still bake during the summer. We're in central PA. micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom is the Queen of Baking and Cooking Ahead!

Rick just texted me; he's at the airport in Vegas, ready for his flight. He should be home around 6:00 or so tonight, til he hits Harrisburg, gets his truck out of "hock" and heads for home. He's still about $500 to the good. He can save that money for his next vacation.

Mia6 Mia6 The Beast is in the kennel, so I'm sure she'll be glad to get back home. (It's been nice not to have to deal with the dog, to be honest. No worries about gates being closed, no need to shut the living room drapes, no listening to the constant anxious panting that she does. I can't say that I've missed her.) The cats don't act like they care much. Usually when Rick gets his luggage out and starts packing, Mollipop will watch me. If I don't do anything, she's not bad. But if I start packing, too, then she gets antsy. While Rick was gone, Tabby enjoyed stretching out on his side of the bed all night; she doesn't get to do that when he's here. Other than that, I don't think they care. The Main Feeder Person was still here and that's what really matters. :) (I am the Main Feeder Person; Rick is the Secondary Feeder Person)

But it's funny when I don't come home from work right away. If I have a meeting and don't get home when Mollipop thinks I should, she'll go to Rick for some attention; she'll jump in his lap and meow at him. Rick says she really worries. Then when she hears Clarence coming up the driveway, it's "Mom's home!" and she'll leap off Rick and stampede to the front door to welcome me home.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked five miles, sorted clothes for the laundry tonight, and got ready for work. Stopped in at Giant; my turn to buy the pretzels for us at work.
  • Laundry night and trash night (and I'll have to do both tonight)
  • A quick vacuum around the house

Winchester Winchester Awww....poor Beast, ha!! Did she go to kennel because Rick was gone or was she ill? Do you have a pic of her?

  • found a pretty wind chime that was given to me as a wedding present and was misplaced. I placed it outside on a shepherd's hook. Hannah will take unused clothing to Marion's Closet, a place here in town that has free clothing, bedding, small appliances at no charge.

yes, i reheat dinner meals in the microwave during the hot weather months. i really like salads, but don't buy the 'makings' for them often, because it's just me here and it can be hard to use salad makings up before they turn. mostly, i'll buy fresh tomatoes, or cukes, or summer squash, and occasionally a very small amount of lettuce/salad greens. and no, i wouldn't freeze veggies with high water content.

i live in the northeast US, and it does get quite hot here (too darn hot for me, anyway) during the summer months. i also think it's just plain wrong (for me) to use the range oven while the air conditioner is cranking away -- battling appliances, and i'd pay the price for that to my gas/electric company.

like i've said, what i do works well for me, and i save quite a bit of money doing things the ways i do them. but, i understand that doing things the ways i do may very well not work well for others or be how they prefer to do things. to each his/her own! :D

today i've made two liters of soda, have a loaf of bread making in the bread machine, and scooped the litter boxes.

this afternoon, i'll slice the loaf of bread, and wash the dishes.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

I feel the same way. I'll go to Nicole's for Sunday dinner and they'll have a roast in the oven when it's 90 degrees. We get heat and humidity here in Ohio all summer and I very seldom use my oven on those days.

It is hard to use salad stuff for one person. Sometimes I'll buy a huge anti-pasta take-away and have it for 3 days. Cheaper than buying salad makings that will go bad.

  • Appt. later but the insurance is sending a Lyft driver this time because so many of my appts. have been screwed up with me not being able to get there. Three times in a week back in February. I've ridden with Lyft twice now and have arrived there on time and I didn't have to wait to be picked up.

Rick got home last night around 7:30; there were some problems in Charlotte, but he eventually got on a plane. Still had his $500. He got home too late to bring The Beast home, so he'll get her today. The reason The Beast was at the kennel is because I refuse to deal with her when Rick is away; you couldn't pay me enough to deal with her. Rick even offered me the same amount of money he'd pay the kennel, just so she wouldn't have to be kenneled, and I told him NO! So whenever he goes anywhere, The Beast is kenneled. Life is too short to deal with a dog, esp that dog. I'm not even looking forward to going home tonight because I know she'll be there. It was so nice and quiet while she was gone.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked four miles, and got ready for work
  • Still need to do one load of kitty linens tonight, although I may wait til Saturday to get them done
Not much really going on

Mia6 Mia6 Yes, she is difficult. She was Rick's dad's beagle and when he passed away, his mom didn't want to deal with her. His mom went into assisted living, so we took the dog. We put her on Prozac and Benedryl, trying to calm her down. She has calmed down considerably in the four years that we've had her, but she's very anxious about everything. She's 14 years old, but doesn't realize how old she is. Even the woman at the kennel said she can't believe Jackie is really 14. Full of spunk, full of energy. Her name is Jackie, but I started calling her The Beast and the name has stuck.

I've threatened more than once to send her off to a beagle rescue and even called about it one time. But when the rescue said they'd take her, I really didn't want her living the rest of her life out in a blasted cage; no dog deserves a cage. And we don't think she's really that adoptable because of her anxiety. So we deal.

Rick said Mollipop was in the window when he and The Beast came home. He said he could feel Molli's glare from the window to his truck. And sure enough, when they walked up to the door, and he looked up at the window, Molli had that WTH!!!! glare on her face. There's no love lost between Molli and The Beast. Tabby, on the other hand, had been sleeping. She looked up, said, "Oh, you're back again?" and went back to sleep.

And me? Well, I :sigh: a lot and deal with her.

You have a big heart. It must be difficult dealing with a high-anxiety dog.
Have you ever asked the vet about the collars dogs and cats wear that have
medication in them and last about a month? Or maybe some Valium. low dose.

today i've moved to the fridge to thaw, some cold cuts, desserts, and dinner servings -- that was around midnight. i've made one liter of root beer, have scooped the litter boxes, and am working on a load of laundry.

this afternoon, i'll wash the dishes, and then spend some time with my budget and on some planning. i'll finish with that load of laundry, too.

i got the lawn mowed yesterday :yess: -- had been waiting for the rain to finally finish up long enough to get it done!

i went to the local produce auction earlier this week, and brought home two one pound packages of shaved ham for $1.25 each, and two 12 ounce containers of Heluva Good white cheddar and bacon dip at 75 cents per. we're getting some produce in now -- some very nice ripe tomatoes (from further south), as well as some locally grown asparagus.

Mia6 Mia6 The Beast is already on Prozac and Benedryl, so no Valium or special collars. I don't know, the idea of any animal living our his or her life in a cage doesn't seem fair. And yet, it happens all the time. I think we've given her a good life overall; we've tried anyway. And she does seem happy here. I can't believe we've had her as long as we have. It's been a long road with her. Thanks!

micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom Do you freeze your deli meat? Or do you figure out ways to use it quickly? I noticed you bought two pounds of ham. I've never tried to freeze deli meat. I have frozen cheese, but didn't like the texture after it thawed. It was OK for cooking (mac and cheese, baked ziti, etc), but not for just munching.
  • Breakfast for the kids, running the dishwasher now, and am sitting back here with my morning coffee. Rick will scoop when he gets up from his morning nap.
  • Banking this morning, must go back to Lowes for bricks for the retaining wall for the shed (we did go down and look last night, but Rick wasn't sure what he wanted). We'll go back down now with the truck and get what we need. We must also go to the John Deere place to get new blades for the riding mower (I really did a number on the mower last week; it was ugly).
  • Hopefully mow the yard. If we can't get the poor riding mower put back together and running again, I'll have to push-mow the yard. And it should be me, since I'm the one who messed the mower up. (We should have an emoticon that hangs its head in shame.) I am hell on that mower.

Winchester Winchester I'm glad the Beast is happy. You've given her an incredible life with love and care. My ex-husband and I took Lena, his parent's cat, to live with us after his dad passed and Rose had to move in with his sisters' because she could no longer live on her own. It was a rough time at first....she hid in the kitchen cabinet, would not eat,,etc. She eventually was ok with the move to our house.
We would go to Cleveland every weekend to see both our mothers who were not in good health. We would bring her with us but we then found a pet sitter who adored her and got a kitten, Nikki, so they kept each other company when we were gone. She had a good life. I got "custody" of her after the divorce.

I hope you have a nice vacation.

  • will relax as the appt. was rough on my body. The ride service was Lyft. On the way there the vehicle was somewhat comfortable; on the way back the driver drove a Lincoln Town car, very comfortable but a driver almost hit us and he had to jam the brakes on. Both our necks did a kind of flip-flop.
