She finished most of a half portion this morning. I don't know if what she left is the plate's share to keep because of her teeth, or a little food for later. But she's eating again. Even if it's just a half portion. I expect we might be back to full portions tomorrow or the next day.

I stayed out longer than I should have. I did give her another half portion before I left at 1. But I didn’t return until 7 tonight. Was she hungry! She let me know it! She set a land speed record on a 3/4 portion and barked for more! I decided to leave the apartment and give her time and space to food coma. No need to pop her on her second good meal back. We may reach full portions sooner than anticipated.

I’m eating my dinner in my car because I don’t want her begging for more food. Her hunger is definitely bigger than her stomach after a couple of days of not eating.

She’s eating the plate’s share. She’s eating the carpet’s share. She’s licking ghosts of meals past off the plate. I feel so bad for her. I want to put down more food. But we need to make it past at least the two hour mark first. I think she’ll feel it in her stomach soon enough. We’ll watch the baseball game together. That usually puts her out for a little bit. And somewhere around the 7th inning we can try an 80% portion or something. Split the difference between 3/4 and full. I often give in to the princess and split the difference.

maybe when she is hungry and isnt allowed to eat more, try distracting her with a game or remove the dish and hide it in the fridge. Poor krista its hard not to feed a cat when you know they feel hungry and your trying to balance their meal at the right portions for medical reasons. Maybe with the feeding as you are measuring the portions, divide them out during the day into 5 parts etc if you are able too, so you will feed her 5 times throughout the whole day, but she wont go hungry cause every few hours she will get something to eat.

Way ahead of you. In fact, five times a day sounds nice. I’m currently feeding her six times a day and trying to collapse a couple of those meals into fewer feedings. That’s kinda what got her a vet visit on Sat. I gave her too much on Fri morning and she popped. Then she had an acute reaction to the carpet cleaner because I didn’t keep her out of the room while it dried. She’s pretty much back to full portions now. I think she was feeling a little food insecure last night because she’d been off her schedule for a few days and then I skipped a couple feedings yesterday.

Through a little trial and error and some head to head testing, it seems she prefers turkey now. I’m happy with this. Turkey is higher calories so I could reasonably reduce or remove a meal and not lose calories. In fact, the difference in calories is almost an entire meal. She finished a full portion for breakfast, spent a small amount of time under the bookcase, then went back and polished the plate even cleaner before coming to me for a scritch Sphinx session on me. Now she’s had her fill of scritches and she’s napping next to me. Pretty sure she’ll tell me the schedule she wants to be on.

That's great!

We're a little off schedule today because we both slept in. I've been feeding her on a 2, 6, and 10 schedule. I think I'm going to try to eliminate the 2pm meal. This should make her good and hungry for the 6 pm meal and that should carry into the 10 pm meal as well. She's never had an issue eating at 2am or 6am. She'll learn to nibble or ration that 10am meal.

If she can eventually get back to four meals a day, then I could feel good about leaving her with a sitter once more. Because although I could probably only get my sitter for three meals a day, that's coming up only 25% short for a few days rather than 40% with five feeds or 50% with six feeds/day. We may also practice short drives this summer. If I can't leave her behind, she's going to have to learn to travel. And at least we can practice driving.

Her blood work came back looking pretty normal. There’s some marks out of range consistent with dehydration. But nothing that would suggest an active disease process. The liver enzymes are all in range. Nowhere near pancreatitis: high range is 5, hers was 1.6 compare with 35 when she had pancreatitis last summer. T4 is good. Kidneys look good. She just wanted to shake things up.

I’ve always thought she’s livelier and perkier when she’s hungry. I think this new feeding schedule will be good for her. She won’t be spending every minute either eating, digesting, or inquiring about the next meal. She will get her days to herself to catch up on beauty sleep, to watch the bird and squirrel channels, and to lay in the sun.

I should have expected the resumption of her pooper to be chock full of drama and comedy including picking up a squatting cat only to have her begin voiding in transit. I certainly made the matter worse but I had to show her in the moment, she had an extra litterbox. I’m not sure I’ve heard her squeal like that before. I’m not sure she’s ever been airborne while pooping before. Firsts all around!
