We managed to get the yard mowed last night. Tonight we are under severe t-storm watch, so we wanted to get things done last night. I ripped through the yard and Rick did some push-mowing to trim a bit.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 4 miles, and got ready for work
  • Must scoop the boxes
  • My friend will be admitted to the dementia unit of a local nursing home on Friday; his wife asked me to come in tonight to visit with him. I know, this is really selfish on my part, but I don't want to. This is a man I worked with for almost 10 years; it was just him and me on the line. And I'm having some really bad problems with his dementia. I'm going in to see him tonight because I need to do this and I realize that I need to do this. But knowing him for the man he was, compared to the man he is now is painful. He doesn't even know us anymore.
While I worked with him for a long time, I eventually met his wife and she and I became friends, too. The four of us have done a lot of things together: vacations and trips, one-day get aways, shopping, dinners, you name it, we've done it. It breaks my heart. It's going to be hard.
Oh I am sorry. It must be painful for you. All the good memories you have.

:alright:

Winchester Winchester I am so sorry. Yes its the hardest thing..we have lost so many of our older folks here to illness. It is very hard to see them how they are now when we remember whn they were working. I learned alot from many of them..Hoping you have peace..sending you hugs...a long time ago I stopped going to the funerals because I just couldn't take crying for 3 days after. It really sucks to loose our coworkers.. it's been 16 years I have been here...there's been at least 7 people off the top of my head, one of them was younger than I was...this royally sucks. :alright:

I ordered a ton of plants on ebay=the auctions were not too bad-I realized the amount I spent last year and before that I could have purchased these babies on ebay and still had enough to give away..so I am going to be selling my plants at work then if that doesn't work, I will take them to the flea market later this month on the Memorial day weekend. This particular flea market is on the Massachusetts lien and we get lots of people from both states. There is also the monthly car parts/car show a mile down the road so we get lots of traffic...

I managed to locate saw horses for cheap, got free plywood from work which was getting thrown out anyways, my coworker cut the boards to fit, I put one on top of my garden tub in the master bath=I will cover it with plastic and keep the repotted babies in there during the next week or so while I harden them off. It's been 9 years since I have done this...but had anxiety at first at how many I ended up with-then realized I could sell/give away. I have 4 people at work who want to buy some-so got some already reserved.

This is unusual for me-I am not usually this ambitious but for the past 5 years we lost the 2 places that used to sell these plants for cheap. The local high school bulldozed their greenhouse :fuming::nono: And the other business down the road didn't want to deal with seedlings etc. :argh: The businesses remaining get $5 a plant! I just can't justify $200 for nothing. I have alot of pots and areas where I grow them..so I have 3different colors of petunias coming, dark blue almost violet, light yellow and their classic bright pink they call purple. I got a huge tray of these unique Zinnias made for drought and high temps. I also got 3 varieties of tomatoes. I don't have room for any more...so that will keep my busy this month..

I have been working in the yard 2 to 3 times a week-moved a ton of wild daisy plants to make a border for the garden on the hill I built a decade ago-it looks like a weed garden now..I am ready to get the rototiller out and just start all over again. I want to order a yard of compost to spread it around..it's been 3 years but I was delighted to find worms everywhere this past week I was digging up the daisy plants..these flowers will bloom in June. They stay for a month even in drought-I love to get wild plants popping up in my grass-usually Jon mows them down but been training him to leave the plants and not mow them down...

And of course Honeybee spends her time by my side eating grass or chasing moles/mice or ? She chases leaves that are blowing around in the wind :flail: Then she comes up for a pet every 15 minutes or so or just begging for treats..Jon has spoiled her so bad that she won't eat her food out of her dish-she jumps up on his table and sits on his puzzle book until he gives her a sprinkling of kibble/treats. :lol2: Then runs back outside..comes back in 15 minutes later. He says he does this so she won't go far...o_O

Anyways happy May to everyone! It was a long winter!

How do you make the soda?
i have a Sodastream soda maker, and i buy snow cone syrup (by the case, 4 gallons per case -- it's the absolute best price i've found, and tastes just fine). actually making the soda is easy. i just fill the sodastream bottles with tap water, then use the soda maker to make that into carbonated water, and add the syrup. i get the level of carbonation as well as the strength of flavoring, that i prefer. :yummy:

sending you :hugs: 's, Winchester Winchester

today i've washed the dishes, made 2 liters of soda, and am working on a load of laundry. i've also done some printing.

i'll scoop the litter boxes this afternoon. and i'll spend some time with my budget, and on some planning.

it's raining here today, but was lovely yesterday -- sunny, and a high in the mid to upper 60's F! :yess: i got quite a bit done outdoors, and have my first bit of sunburn -- always turns to tan, and i end up with a 'farmers tan'.

Thanks! I went in and he met me at the door and let me in. I'm not sure he knew me the whole time, although at one point, he did say my name. We were talking about the paper plant, about people who had worked there. He seemed to remember some of them, but not others, but I'm the same way. He remembered some the stuff that happened to us while we were working on the line together. His wife said it's the most he's talked in a while, but I have found that if I talk about working together, he's good. It's other things that he doesn't remember. And good days and bad days. I gave him a hug when I left. And cried the whole way home. He's a good man and he doesn't deserve this. But I guess none of do really.

The guys are coming this morning to install the new doors, so Rick is home. He has Muffin shut up in the computer room, with Tabby and Mollipop in the bedroom, and The Beast out in the kitchen. Amber and Pepe won't care about any of it; Pepe will likely sleep through most of it, and Amber will hide out under the sofa. It will be nice to come home to new doors! And the guy is coming back today to finish grading the shed site. He'll take the top soil up to the garden; we're going to use it in a raised bed. Rick said he'd like to get at least one raised bed done for planting.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 4 miles, and got ready for work. I did a quick bit of clean-up, too.
  • Laundry night (unless Rick gets it done)
  • Trash night and the boxes need scooped

today i've made a phone call, cooked the rice for tomorrows casseroles assembling/baking, washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, and took a bag of litter scoopings out to the trash. i've also played some computer games.

i went to the local produce auction this week, and brought home 3 (28 ounce) cans of green enchilada sauce at 35 cents per -- i'll be making chicken enchilada lasagna tomorrow, two pans of it (will freeze all but 4 servings).

they had apple trees there (the very young trees, like those that are bought by the local orchards this time of year -- they look like 5 1/2 foot tall sticks with roots, is the best way to describe them. we see trucks carrying about a ton of these pretty much every year here). they were sold in groups of 5 trees, each group having trees of five different varieties of apples. always nice to see! they sold for $27.50 per group of 5. it's ideal to sell in groups with different varieties, because you need that for proper (cross-) pollinating. i don't have room on my property for five apple trees -- even the type that's now become common, that don't grow as high but still produce the same amount of apples as the bigger trees. maybe could fit 2 or 3 trees, though. it's the septic's leach lines, which i wouldn't want to have the trees roots growing into them.

We've been thinking about planting a couple of apple trees, along with a couple of peach trees. We have room for them. But I only really like Grannies and Mutsu (Pippins in PA) apples, so we'd have to specifically look for them. The Beast doesn't care; apples are apples to her, although I think she tends to go for the Grannies, too.

We love our doors. It seems weird to have such a dark door on the inside as we're so used to that white door we had for years. Rick says that now we need to look for new tiles for the foyer floor down by the front door. You know, it never stops! You do one thing, which leads to another, which leads to another.....

The guy came in last night and he and Rick talked about what Rick wanted done yet with the grading; the guy didn't have time to come in yesterday afternoon. And that's fine. He's a neighbor, so he comes when he's not busy elsewhere and we're OK with that. He gave Rick a really good price on the work; we can't complain. (I think I'll be baking this weekend. When Rick and I were first walking around over there, he saw us and he came down, just to be nosy. And then he asked, "Is there anything I could do to earn some cookies? Would cookies be involved?" :flail: He's such a neat neighbor and I need to get his cookies baked.)
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked four miles, and got ready for work
  • I have a hair appt tonight after work
  • Must scoop the boxes
And then I think I'm going to bed to read for a while; it's been a really long week.

very nice, Winchester Winchester ! a couple apple trees and a couple peach trees.
i know that for many varieties of apple trees, it takes 3 to 4 years before they bear a good load of fruit. but that also depends on the variety of apple tree, and at what stage/size the tree is when bought/planted.

i know nothing about peach trees. well, i do know that (some?) stone fruit trees have been, in some areas here in the US, required to be cut down because of peach tree borers. peach tree borers can effect all stone fruit trees, and they bore into the tree/branches and don't go after the fruit or foliage. it's important to check for peach tree borers regularly, and deal with them properly before they damage the tree too much.

today i've got a loaf of bread machine bread making, have made two liters of soda, moved more tortillas to thaw (the vacuum sealed package is in the sink thawing now), and scooped the litter boxes.

this afternoon, i'll wash the dishes, and assemble/bake the two enchilada lasagna casseroles.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

It's Friday! It's Friday! :banana1:

And it's Dear Richard's last day of work. I asked him how it was going today and he said it's almost surreal. I don't think it will really hit us until the week after next because he's leaving for Vegas for a union seminar. So we really won't realize much difference until he comes back home and doesn't have to go back to work.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked four miles, and got ready for work
  • Must scoop boxes tonight
  • Make the dough tonight for Rick's snickerdoodles (baking tomorrow)
And that's pretty much it

Mia6 Mia6 He has been there 40 years. He worked at a furniture manufacturing plant prior to that.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my coffee. Rick will scoop when he gets up from his morning nap.
  • Errands: bank, Lowes, Target, Giant
  • Going to rip through the yard this afternoon
  • Must bake snickerdoodles, chocolate crinkles, and I want to bake a loaf of sourdough bread. I was going to make garlic-parm rolls for the freezer today, but didn't get the dough made last night. Maybe tomorrow morning.

Wowza, this will be a time of transition for him. Forty years of being with the same people everyday, etc. Now he can make you a nice, hot breakfast every morning and grind the beans for coffee. :yess: I wish him the best as he embarks on this new life adventure.

today i've cut up doses of my cats supplements, and have moved two pounds of boneless pork chunks to the fridge to thaw (will be used in making braised pork ragu). i've also scooped the litter boxes.

i'll wash the dishes, then dice the carrots for the braised pork ragu -- will put in a container in the fridge. i may pre-measure the dry ingredients for two pans of carob chip blondies, too -- i'm thinking of making some tomorrow. i'll spend some time on some planning.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

How many people do you cook for? Sometimes it sounds like you are cooking for an army!@Winchester: is he now retired? Does he have any specific plans for now? I remember my sister telling me after she was retired for a few years and I was looking for retirement after another year or two: you better have something planned because retirement is not everything it's cracked up to be. She must be really bored. She has enough money to do anything she wants including travelling the world which I don't, but I am never bored and I don't have half the money she has.

Mia6 Mia6 Hot breakfast? Grinding coffee beans? Not in this lifetime!
segelkatt segelkatt He is retired. He may take a part-time job at some point in the future, but, for now, he says he has enough stuff to finish up around the house and the yard to keep him busy for a while. And even though, he's retired, he's still doing his union work until next June when his term expires, so he'll still be in and out of the plant. He's leaving for Vegas to attend some union seminars and will be gone for a few days.

A friend at work told me to have lots of plans for when I retire. She says that, otherwise, I'll be bored out of my mind. And my sister told me that when I retire, I should still get a part-time job. I don't see me being bored, I really don't. My sister loves working and says she'll probably work until she's at least 70. I used to say that, too.

Two guys came in this morning; they're going to Vegas with Rick. And they're both cat-lovers. You should have seem them caressing the girls, and sweet-talking them. One of the guys said that he found what he thought was a full-grown cat and brought him home. He said he looked like a regular cat, except he was big. He took the cat to the vet; the cat weighed 28 pounds! The vet looked at the guy and said, "You do realize that you don't have a cat, don't you? And what you have is a kitten!" Well, cats do mate with bobcats and what he actually had was a bobcat/cat kitten! He still has it and it's the sweetest HUGE cat around. Stays in the house all the time, he's neutered, and he's adorable.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, and am sitting back here with my morning coffee. I've been up since 2:30 to see Rick off to the airport and I may go back to bed shortly. I'm waiting for him to text me that he made it down to the airport.
  • Will strip the bed down, do a bit of laundry, and remake the bed
  • Vacuum, dust, wipe the kitchen and bathroom down
  • Form and bake my garlic-Parm rolls for the freezer (got the dough made last night)
  • Do a manicure tonight
We visited with Rick's mom last night, so an early night for me tonight

segelkatt segelkatt -- just one person here! most of what i cook/bake this time of year (actually starting in late january or early february) is to 'put up' (in the freezer) for the hot weather months. i've put up enough dinner and dessert servings to get me through, but won't start in on those until june 1st. right now, i'm doing the last bit of oven use before the oven goes on 'hiatus', starting june 1st -- won't be used again until it starts cooling down sometime in october. it's still cool enough to comfortably use the oven now, so i'm doing a little cooking/baking still.

today i've made two liters of soda, washed the dishes, made some potatoes (will serve the braised pork ragu over them), and scooped the litter boxes.

this afternoon, i'll bake two pans of carob chip blondies, and then wash the dishes from that.

after that, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

Tell your friend that we have a thread called "Living with a Bobcat", he might be interested with what other people with bobcats or mixed with bobcats do. The cat in that thread is 4 years old and knows nothing about any other kind of living but with a couple who have several other regular cats and they have built a huge catio onto the back of their house. This cat weighs 40 lbs and eats 1 1/2 lbs of raw chicken (ground up, bones and all) plus kibble for bobcats every day and is as gentle as a housecat, sleeping with his furless cat parents.

Wowza, you make all that food for yourself? I am impressed. You really know how to plan ahead, budget. Have you ever thought about running a restaurant?
I'm sure someone would pay you quite well to organize them and then you could do it online. With your skills you would be in demand.

What is pork ragu?

She ( micknsnicks2mom micknsnicks2mom ) is amazing. I am always in awe of what she does with her freezer.

I slept like a log last night. Got to bed and to sleep around 9. And that was all I remember until 3:45 when Pepe started yelling for breakfast. Then Amber started muttering. Then Molli went after Tabby. Then Molli went after Muffin. I gave up and by 4:30, everybody was chowing down on breakfast....which was probably their intention all along. Brats. All of them. :sleep2: :sleep2:
  • Breakfast for the brats, walked 5 miles this morning (amazing what one can walk when she's up at 4:30!), and got ready for work
  • I have the PC meeting from Hades tonight after work. It's not going to be pleasant and it's going to be long. The cats will not be amused because I'll be home late.
  • Must scoop the boxes
